For decades the provincial government in Quebec kept tuition fees low to encourage people to take advantage of post-secondary education. Eric Reder on peat mining

In 2011, the Manitoba government passed the Save Lake Winnipeg Act. The Act included a clause that promised a moratorium on new peat leases, new permits or expansion of existing peat mines in Manitoba. The government argued that the measure was important to protect Lake Winnipeg and to meet Manitoba's greenhouse gas emission targets. However, a number of new peat mines may open, including one in Hecla Grindstone Provincial Park. Eric Reder is the campaign director of the Manitoba field office of the Wilderness Committee.

Monsanto appeared in Federal District Court in Manhattan on January 31st, 2012, to have a suit dismissed that was filed by organic growers. At stake is: Can Monsanto sue farmers whose land was contaminated by pollen or seed from genetically modified plantings by their neighbors? The answer is that Monsanto has asserted their patent rights over those whose land was polluted by GMOs and continues to do so. Dan Ravicher, the attorney for the Organic Seed Growers & Trade Association and others, representing over 300,000 individuals, gave this summary of the landmark suit to stop these lawsuits at the Heirloom Seed Expo in Santa Rosa, CA, on September 14, 2011.

Director Emily James spent a year filming Climate Camp and Plane Stupid, two direct action groups in the U.K. Her film Just Do It is a window into the world of activists planning and carrying out direct actions. In this interview, James talks about why she wanted to make this film, how she won the trust of the people she filmed and the security protocol she developed to keep her material out of the hands of the police.
