Lundi 19 septembre, l'audience au cours de laquelle sera examiné le recours en grâce d'un Américain condamné à mort va décider de son sort.
Si son recours est rejeté, Troy Davis, condamné à mort en 1991 pour le meurtre d'un policier, Mark Allen MacPhail, à Savannah, dans l'Ãtat de Géorgie, sera exécuté deux jours plus tard, le 21 septembre.

This part TWO covers Granny D's arrival in Washington DC after her 14 months walk that ended with her cross county skiing along the C & O Canal into Washington DC (The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal) because a snowstorm had made it impossible to walk along the roads. Also in this program references to her continued work against money in politics for ten more years which included her arrest in the rotunda of the Capitol building, and her campaign for Senate in NH.
Granny D lived to see the Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling that corporations are persons and have First Amendment rights and that the government cannot impose restrictions on their political speech. Amy Goodman quoted her in a Democracy Now tribute after Granny's death at age 100: At her 100ds birthday party Granny D said: "I guess the Supreme Court burned down our little house - but truth be told it was pretty drafty anyway. We had not really solved the problem of too much money in politics, not hardly. Now we have an opportunity to start clean and build a system of reforms that really will do the trick."

For the fund drive, we play a bunch of music we've never played before, but more importantly, we have local artist extraordinaire Herschel Stratego in the studio playing awesome tunes and shooting the shit - and we shot all KINDS of shit - for the majority of the show. It was tons of fun, and I learned that my brain WILL recognize that it's about to say 'fuck' even when I'm not actively paying attention.

The very latest from Libya with Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya, recently-returned from a dangerous two-month stay reporting on NATO bombing in Libya. Nazemroaya was there, and, commenting on post-war Libya, states that "the living standards won't go up."
At great personal risk, Nazemroaya brought Canadians not only the facts, but an extensive analysis based on personal presence in the war zone. You will be stunned with how much is being kept from Canadians in a media "gentlemen's agreement" on the rebels and Western activities.
Also, it's funny how often "hikers" stumble from Iraq into Iran, from Colombia into Venezuela, etc...
Later in the program, Phil Conlon reports on the Toronto Independent Film Festival. As Conlon notes, "films are the literature of the 21st century and can do either good or bad." Who was naughty or nice in 2011?

We interview biologist Alexandra Morton, Alex began grappling with the impacts of Salmon farming by writing letters to government, but after 10,000 pages, she realized they were not going to accept the words of a local resident. So she appealed to scientists around the world and they worked with her to measure significant negative impact of salmon farms on fish and whales. Alex has co-published with these scientists in scientific journals in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Alex also participated in every government process on salmon farms and watched as each made solid recommendations that were never implemented.
In August she testified at the "Cohen Commission of Inquiryâ into the Decline of Sockeye Salmon in the Fraser River" which will investigate the impact of infectious diseases from salmon feedlots on wild salmon.
Salmon feedlots kill wild salmon. For years British Columbians have tried to persuade this Norwegian industry to respect our wild fish, even offering to fund their transition to closed tanks, but they just keep expanding. Five thousand people stood at the BC legislature telling government to get salmon feedlots out of the ocean, away from our salmon, but they did not hear us.
We talk to Alex about the Cohen Inquiry and how we as citizens need to join the Voices for Wild Salmon to stand for the fish that brings life to our coast. Salmon Feedlots must GET OUT of our ocean.
