Robin Hahnel is a Professor of Economics at Portland State University. He is best known for his work on participatory economics with Z Magazine editor Michael Albert. He is currently a visiting professor at Lewis & Clark College. Hahnel is a radical economist and political activist, his most recent book is "Green Economics: Confronting the Ecological Crisis"
Sylvia speaks with Robin about the riots in the UK, the downgrading of the US credit rating and the political and financial crisis in the US and globally and what progressives should be doing as a response to all this.

Corporate social responsibility or CSR. What is it, exactly? The Wikipedia entry says âThe goal of CSR is to embrace responsibility for a companyâs actions and encourage a positive impact through its activities on the environmentâ¦and members of the public.â Sounds really good. But not everyone involved in this sort of work embraces the term CSR. Today on Sea Change Radio weâll talk with Carol Sanford who believes her approach to responsible business is distinct from CSR. And, for those of you who are long-time listeners, youâll be happy to hear from our second guest, Bill Baue, CSR pioneer and Sea Change Radio Founder. Baue provides a thorough overview of what CSR is and could be, and speaks to why some consultants pushing the business sector to be more mindful of its environmental and social impact donât use the term CSR.

City of Life and Death is a 2009 Chinese film directed by Lu Chuan. The film deals with the siege of Nanjing in 1937 and the massacre of hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians. Film critics Marty and Martha Roth says the film is a cinematic masterpiece that brings to light a long suppressed episode in the history of the 20th century.
