Routine Releases of Nuclear Power Facilities Impose More Than Acceptable Cancer Risk Upon Thousands of Canadians and Americans

July 19, 2011, 9:37 a.m.
Dorothy Goldin Rosenberg, PhD is amazing. She is a member of the faculty of the University of Toronto. She is amazing. She is a founding member of Prevent Cancer Now, a leading Canadian cancer prevention organization. She is a film maker with a very impressive number of titles to her credit. She is an excellent communicator. She radiates a wonderful good vibe. I have had the great good fortune of speaking with her for a considerable quantity of time. The result of receiving her guidance on the subjects of uranium, radionuclides, ionizing radiation, nuclear reactors, routine releases to the environment and disease risk imposed by exposures to radioactive pollutants is transformative. She has given me the gift of being now able to take part in advocacy for the elimination of nuclear power facilities throughout the world. If you have been stopped in your tracks by Fukushima, you are ready to listen carefully to what Dorothy has to say. If you have not stopped to think about the Fukushima disaster, please do it now and then listen to this powerful interview. Thank you, Dorothy.

Conversation on Gaza Flotilla with Kathy Kelly

July 17, 2011, 9:03 a.m.
Today's show features a conversation with longtime peace activist Kathy Kelly of Voices for Creative Non-Violence on her participation in the recent Gaza Flotilla, and the Welcome to Palestine Campaign. VCNV seeks to end U.S. military and economic warfare. She and her companions at the Voices home office in Chicago believe that non-violence necessarily involves simplicity, service, sharing of resources and non-violent direct action in resistance to war and oppression. Kathy has brought this important message to war torn areas such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Palestine. For example, in 2003 Kathy and her companions lived in Baghdad throughout the "Shock and Awe" bombing. In 2009, she was part of a small delegation that reported from Gaza during Israel's brutal "Operation Cast Lead". In 2010, she made three trips to Afghanistan, helping to connect U.S. peace activists with Afghan Youth Peace Volunteers and other representatives of civil society, and more recently in the spring of 2011, she joined these same volunteers in their campaign "Live Without Wars"

Deconstructing Obama's speech on Israel/Palestine

July 17, 2011, 8:19 a.m.
TWIP this week features a counter response to President Obamas May 19th speech on the Middle East and North Africa. A short excerpt of his speech focusing on Israel and Palestine is followed by an incisive response and analysis by Diana Buttu, a Palestinian Research Fellow at Harvard University, and a former member of the PLO Legal Negotiations Unit. In her response, Buttu lays bare the Presidents tired rhetoric on the 1967 borders, and his failure to address the key issues such as refugees, and the colonial expropriation of land, fueling the Israeli and Palestinian conflict. The program ends with a reading of a recent opinion piece on the enduring legacy of the Nakba by long time Middle East observer and journalist Lamis Andoni, which puts the struggle into its correct context. Although President Obama would have us believe that engaging in no-win negotiations, and deferring key issues is a solution, there will be no peace or justice until Palestinian refugees return to Palestine.
