According to this week’s guests, not far enough. This week on Sea Change Radio, host Alex Wise first talks to sustainability consultant Ted Howes who explains the direction utility companies should be taking to work smarter, not harder, and why this smart grid technology is meeting with some resistance. Then we hear from Danny Kennedy, the founder of Sungevity, one of the solar companies whose “Glo-bama” campaign successfully advocated for the re-installation of solar panels on the White House. US FDA Failing to Act on Citizen Cancer Prevention Petitions: A History of Criminal Avoidance of Responsibility Due to Corporate Influences

Feb. 15, 2011, 1:15 p.m.
Dr. Samuel Epstein has written many books on the subject of avoidable causes of cancer. He founded the Cancer Prevention Coalition because of a great personal commitment to reducing cancer incidence via advocacy and educational endeavors empowered by existing scientific knowledge on the subject of cancer causation. This interview starts with a long list of chemical carcinogens and carcinogenic agents, including nuclear radiation and x-rays, which are associated with breast cancer causation. Dr. Epstein names these many cancer causing entities that exist in our environment and goes on to state that breast cancer incidence is rising in the United States. Over the course of the past several decades Dr. Epstein has filed numerous citizen petitions calling for actions by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which would lead to reduced exposure of the American public to carcinogenic chemicals and agents. Dr. Epstein has encountered a criminal lack of responsiveness to these petitions. He states that the FDA is composed of criminals who must be imprisoned as a starting point for correcting the flaws that render FDA incapable of acting for the protection of the public health when corporate interests oppose such action. Cancer Action NY has sought to move FDA with a citizen petition that calls for the establishment of a regulation that would prohibit the feeding of waste animal fat to food animals. FDA has failed to take action on this petition since January 2004. The Cancer Prevention Coalition and Cancer Action NY are now allies in seeking congressional hearings that will bring the FDA criminals to justice.

Feb. 15, 2011, 11:17 a.m.
radio613 speaks with correspondent Yakov in Toronto following the protest against the English Defense League’s talk at the Toronto Zionist Centre on Tuesday, January 11th. The English Defense League is a racist, islamophobic grassroots nationalist group in England that has been hosting rallies to incite hate for immigrants and people of colour. They were invited to speak in Toronto by the JDL, and facing no troubles at the Canadian border in their quest to spread the hate to Toronto, a robust group of anti-racist activists from many walks of life showed up to protest their talk. Following the interview, Malcah and Avi discuss the latest in American right-wing anti-semitic lingo. Fear not, the Sarah Palin clip is oh-so-short and our indictments loom large. Labor Express for 2-14-11

Feb. 14, 2011, 8:41 p.m.
This is the full 2-14-11 episode of the Labor Express Radio program. On today’s program we focus on Chicago municipal elections which are just over a week away. These elections could have a huge impact on working people’s lives in this city, so we are devoting today’s and next week's program to this topic. We have focused our election coverage up till now on the statements made by Mayoral candidates at a number of candidates forums held around the city. Because Rahm Emmanuel has refused to attend these forums, we have heard little about his position on these issues. So today, we hear some analysis of Emanuel’s politics from journalist Micah Utreicht. Most of our coverage has focused on the Mayor’s race, but there are many important contested aldermanic seats in the upcoming election as well. Will hear from Jorge Ramirez president of the Chicago Federation of Labor how they are involved in supporting key aldermanic candidates and how they decide who to support. We will also air more audio from the CTU Mayoral candidate’s forum and the New Chicago 2011 Mayoral candidate’s forum. Labor Express Radio is Chicago's only English language labor news and current affairs radio program. News for working people, by working people. Labor Express Radio airs every Monday morning at 10:00 AM on Chicago's Sound Alliance, WLUW, 88.7 FM. Front-line workers say Citizenship and Immigration Canada complicit in denial of meds to Quebec Refugee claimants

Feb. 14, 2011, 6:11 p.m.
On the 17th of January, 2011 the Association of Quebec Pharmacy (AQPP) owners issued a statement to its members urging them to cease filling prescriptions for those covered under the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), arguing that the wait-time for reimbursement from Citizenship and Immigration Canada was too lengthy. Although the dispute has allegedly been resolved, there are reports that some pharmacies are still witholding medications. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) played innocent as refugee claimants were left without their medications, despite the fact that the myriad of problems with IFHP are well known to the federal government. Most appallingly, that those covered under the IFHP are denied full health provincial health coverage and are subject to a second-class health system. On today's episode of the HJRC, we collaborate with CKUT 90.3 FM's Health on Earth in Montreal to bring you an interview with immigration lawyer David Thompson who works at the Montreal Chest Institute. We also speak with Montreal pediatrician and member of the No One is Illegal campaign, Samir Shaheen-Hussain, about an op-ed he co-authored, denouncing both the AQPP and CIC's tactics.
