This week Radio Curious is joined by 5th District candidates for Supervisor in Mendocino County, Dan Hamburg and Wendy Roberts. Host and attorney Barry Vogel asks them both the same questions, independently of one another so you can compare their answers. The interviews were recorded in the last week of September 2010, at the studios of Radio Curious in Ukiah, Ca. The book Wendy Roberts recommends is, "Touching Wings, Touching Wild," by Ronnie James. The book Dan Hamburg recommends is, "The Shock Doctrine," by Naomi Klein.

music tonite from bands-o-plenty that are playing within the next week: we will here from download who will be playing the subcon beyond fest in dc this friday, oct. 1st, at a venue called club 24. the line for this incredible event includes download and plateau (skinny puppy side projects!) with otto von schirach and banana sloth! plus we will here from bile, synthetic nightmare (local), and low on sanity (local) who will be playing together this saturday, oct. 2, at fallout here in richmond! a show i forgot to mention last week was the swans playing up in d.c. this wednesday, sept. 29th, at the black cat. so we will here a swans track. ....but peelander z, point blank, and herschel stratego will be playing the 29th as well here in richmond at the camel! so in the 2nd hour of the show let's here some point blank, what'd ya say!

Scott Horton is an attorney in New York and a contributing editor of Harper's Magazine. He lectures at Columbia University Law School and is a life-long human rights advocate. He co-founded the American University in Central Asia and has been an important figure in many foreign investment projects throughout Central Eurasia. He led many studies of abuse for the New York City Bar Association and chaired the Committee on International Law among other committees. A Voice Against Mayan Genocide: Rigoberta Menchu

Although, hardly remembered in the United States, Rigoberta Menchú Tum can be credited with being one of the first Mayans to speak out and publicize the plight of Guatemala's indigenous peoples during and after the Guatemalan Civil War that stretched from a CIA inspired coup in 1954 to 1996. During that period hundreds of thousands of indigenous Mayans were murdered in Guatemala leading to charges of Genocide against the US supported Guatamalan military.
