Don't believe all that BULLSHIT about US combat operations in Iraq being over! Jubail, just outside Fallouja, Iraq, yesterday morning: An Iraqi military force backed by U.S. soldiers shot it out with resistance fighters early during a raid in a village in western Iraq that left eight people dead, four of them civilians. No Americans were among the casualties. The raid began with an elite Iraqi unit surrounding a street in Jubail, just outside Fallouja, Iraqi police and the U.S. military reported. According to the Americans, the so-called "counter-terrorism" unit, backed by US soldiers, was looking to arrest a Resistance leader when gunfire erupted from several directions, as the occupants of the home attempted to defend themselves. Balad Airbase, Iraq, yesterday: A US airman was killed in a reported ordinance accident. Karbala, Iraq, yesterday: One U.S. vehicle was completely destroyed on Wednesday when a roadside bomb went off targeting a convoy of the Provincial Reconstruction Team north of Karbala city. “The blast took place at the al-Husseiniya area, 20 km north of Karbala,” a local media source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. ...and more...

The church which was built by slaves in the 19th century stands to be demolished due to damages inflicted by Hurricaines Katrina, Ivan, and Gustav. First Nations community radio; community calendar project against homelessness

Both communities are at the forefront of indigenous opposition to Tar Sands developments. It is coordinated by Paul Ryan at PIVOT Legal Society.
