Can We Get The Fluoride and Lithium Out of Our Water Before The Election? Before We're CAMH'd? - August 5, 2010

Aug. 5, 2010, 6:48 a.m.
This episode: if people help educate and inspire you: then what do you do? Not even for them: but for other people? Is there a point in learning to play guitar if you never play a guitar? Can guys who have fun barn-raisin' or car-buildin' enjoy fighting for their country? When up against the global mafia, should we leave women and children out of it? (They didn't. Bastards.) When fluoride, lithium and our culture are dumbing us down and chilling us out, should we just go along with it? Yes? No?

BSTF 825 - WORK SUX

Aug. 4, 2010, 5:42 p.m.
Tonight's show is one I've overlooked since it was first broadcast in 1995 or thereabouts--BSTF #89, my "Work Sux!" show. It took two nights and this morning to fix up, but it's got some nice chunks of DEVO in the mix (I replaced my original low-fi scratched-up version of "Mongoloid" with a live one from a DEVO bootleg recorded at Mabuhay Gardens in 1987), a little Zappa, some pinko socialist hippie workers' rights amateur-night-quality rabble-rousing acoustic-guitar and R&B- artificially-flavored songs, plus for Tater there's a couple hillbilly numbers (a yodeling garbageman song and a silly song by Dorothy Shay, the Park Avenue Hillbilly) with the mushy 78 rpm sound punched up nice and crisp 'n' the scratches all drawn out with a pencil. Sorry, I meant "all drawed out." I felt a little hypocritical because for the first time in a decade I have a Slack-ass job myself--but I know that YOU're out there suffering. Well, except for you gloriously retired bastards. That "I don't have to practice what I preach" stuff goes two ways--I don't have to be directly suffering myself to know that YOU're twisting on the Man's meathooks. I can abundantly relate to your pain. Pain is the only thing that I remember, and I know how bad it is in the belly of the fucking Pink Beast day after day, metered out by each agonizing minute on the timeclock. So I hope wallowing in this sonic sitzbath will take some of the sting out of w**k for you. My poor, poor seekers...

8/4/10 edition

Aug. 4, 2010, 5:26 p.m.
it seems like i played a lot of '80s and '90s music tonite. tonite's show would have probably been cutting edge about 10 or 15 years ago. anyhow, i liked everything i played tonite, except the stupid tom petty song that josh of mother's milk requested. but playing people's requests at 2:30 in the am is how i roll, even if if the song sux 'cause i'm thankful to have listeners at these hours and i am committed to keeping them listening! i hope you enjoyed tonite's brief history lesson of classic richmond metal bands: thanks to dave for hooking me up with the claude zircle cd and thanks to scott from rvafreaks for hooking me up with the sordid doctrine disc!

BSTF 824 - The 'You Don't Know Nomi' Show

Aug. 4, 2010, 2:20 p.m.
Doc Ellis indulges in a sonic retrospective of a truly SubGenius talent, the unfortunately long-late Klaus Nomi! If you've seen the Venture Bros. episode "Showdown at Cremation Creek," he's the guy who, with Iggy Pop, is one of Bowie's henchmen (when someone says something about Bowie "busting in here with your stooges!" Klaus replies, "But I vass not a Stoodge!"). It's an hour of pure glorious mindless earcandy from the good (?) Doktors of the Institute.

BSTF 823 - Batshow!

Aug. 4, 2010, 2:08 p.m.
Batshow as in BATMAN! This is one episode of "Bob"'s SlackTime Funhouse that Toilet Pepper is gonna be fapping to for an hour--I assembled every cover version of the BATMAN theme I could find, by surf bands and rap groups and drummers and Jan & Dean with FRANK ZAPPA (!!!)--but hell, the most inspired version is by a bunch of ACTUAL 'TARDS from a Special-Ed camp who REALLY show us what this three-chord earworm is all about!

Farming and Breast Cancer Risk, an Interview with Dr. James Brophy, Toxic Free Canada

Aug. 3, 2010, 2:05 p.m.
Dr. James Brophy is an epidemiologist who studies occupational causes of cancer. He has gathered occupational histories for patients diagnosed with cancer at the Windsor Cancer Center, located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The research Dr. Brophy conducts has elucidated an association between farm work and breast cancer. Many women start working on the farm as children. Exposure to pesticides during critical windows of development, leads to interference with development that may predispose the individual to increased breast cancer susceptibility. Thus, when young girls are exposed to pesticides, many of which are endocrine disruptors, changes can occur that increase cancer risk. Anyone interested in seeking to understand the causes of cancer in their community should listen to what Dr. Brophy has to say about his work to prevent cancer in one of the industrial centers of Canada. You can find more about Dr. Brophy’s research by visiting the Toxic Free Canada website. Dr. Brophy can be reached at: jimbrophy@yahoo.com.
