Nuclear Power Interferes With Transition To Renewables

Investing in nuclear power can slow down a large-scale transition to renewable energy. Uranium is an exhaustible resource, not renewable. Capital put into building new nuclear plants is not available for renewables and efficiency. Here in Vermont, the state might have invested significantly more in renewables if major utilities were not locked into long-term contracts for a third of the stateâs electricity from the stateâs aging nuclear power plant.

Vehemently opposed to that movement were a group of white segregationists who politically and culturally undertook what came to be known as Massive Resistance perhaps best represented by a picture of a young white schoolboy holding a placard that read "All I want for Christmas is a clean white school."

Professor Patrick Bellegarde-Smith is a faculty member in the department of Africology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He researches in the areas of African and Neo-African religions and African diasporic social thought and philosophy. He holds a PhD in international relations, comparative politics and history. He has taught in all these areas in Black Studies and Women's Studies over the last three decades.
He joined CHRY to discuss the role of spirituality and vodou in the slave rebellion of 1791, and in contemporary Haitian Society.

On Feb 13, protesters against fur sales at the DC Neiman-Marcus outlet got a violent response from store security: a protester had a door slammed open into his face, nearly knocking out his teeth.
HLS protest target says peaceful protesters will burn his home

In Washington DC, a bill is being proposed to ban peaceful protests at the homes of corporate executives. This is in response to anti-Huntingdon Life sciences protests at the homes of execs of corporations like Abbot and Novartis.
Jennifer Luray is an exec with the Campaign for Public health, a fake nonprofit funded by Abbot, Glaxo-Smithkline, Battelle, and the March of Dimes. There have been over 20 peaceful protests at her home. Now, her husband Steve Goodman accuses the peaceful protesters of plotting to burn their home by summer unless the peaceful protests are banned!
Montreal Launch: Movements in Manila Photo Exhibition

On Thursday night dozens of people gathered at Kaza Maza in Montreal for the opening of Movements in Manila. This photo exhibit was prepared by Stefan Christoff and sponsored by the Center for Filipine concerns. The photos were a journey through areas of the Philippines where Christoff was stationed in 2007. He went along with a delegation of activists from around the world to observe the mid-term elections. Folks were stationed at different districts where political repression and killings were expected to take place.

Bill Guttentag is a lecturer at Stanford University's Graduate School of
Business and teaches the course, "Leadership in the Entertainment Industry."
Bill Guttentag is a two-time Oscar-winning documentary and feature
film writer, director, and producer. His films include the recent
documentary, "Soundtrack for a Revolution" which through music
tells the story of the American civil rights movement, the
feature "Nanking" and the satirical movie, "Live!" He was the
creator of the NBC television show, "Law & Order: Crime & Punishment"
which filmed real trials and prosecutors from the San Diego County's
District Attorney's Office. He has three additional Oscar nominations,
a Peabody Award, three Emmy Awards, two additional Emmy nominations,
two Writers Guild Award nominations, a Producers Guild Award nomination,
and a Robert Kennedy Journalism Award
His latest work is a crime novel entitled, "Boulevard" which based on a true story
is about a murder, a detective, a young runaway against a backdrop
of the legendary Sunset Boulevard with its bright lights and promises of Hollywood fame
alluring the young, beautiful, and even the desperate who often times fall into
an underworld of crime and the sex-industry. The book has just been released
this month by Pegasus Books.
Although he was extremely busy, Bill Guttentag was gracious and generous for having kindly come to KZSU to talk about writing his first novel while teaching at Stanford and establishing such a successful career in film.

We play some great tunes through punl history, talk about the issues punk has confronted and of course, it would not be a show about punk if we did not trash popular "punk" bands and style. We also talk about the mother fucking resistance a little and shoot the shit about the scurge of pc that plagues the anarchist world.
