Long Island's Response to the Breast Cancer Epidemic: Compassion and Prevention

Long Island communities have responded to the breast cancer epidemic with inspiring efforts. The Island's breast cancer organizations provide assistance to the women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and their families. In addition to the support activities, many of the groups are now conducting an impressive educational outreach focused on prevention. Donna Jurasit, Executive Director of the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, describes how her group educates on risk reduction. They start speaking with young children about the presence of chemicals in our surroundings and the benefit of knowing what chemicals are damaging to health. In this knowing of the chemicals there is the power to choose healthier foods, body care products and household cleaning products. Cancer prevention education focusing on reducing exposure to chemicals and agents that cause cancer is growing stronger every day. We have good reason to be hopeful that sometime in the future cancer will be a very rare disease. Honor to the people of Long Island for their leadership in reducing cancer burden. Honor them for their compassion, their clear thinking on prevention and their hard work.
TDSB Closing Dozens of Schools / Latino-Torontonians Defend "Caravan of Hope"

In this show, we speak with Errol Young, former TDSB Trustee of 15 years, on the TDSB's plans to close up to 100 schools in Toronto.
We also interview Lucho Granados-Ceja of Barrio Nuevo on the popular mobilization at the City Hall's Executive Council meeting to ensure that the City did not back down on its commitment to allow the Caravan of Hope project to secure and purchase old EMS ambulances to send to El Salvador.

Scott Doorley is currently a Consulting Professor in the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design or "d.school" at Stanford University. Originally from Boston, Professor Doorley went to UCLA Film School and Stanford d.school. Besides teaching, Professor Doorley has exhibited work as a filmmaker, photographer, Art Director, Production Sound Mixer, and Web and Graphics Designer. A marvellous part of listening to Professor Doorley's inpsiring playlist is hearing his honest and creative commentary of his song choices.
