Lead artist Fiona Bowie and engineering physics student Morgan Hibbert have created a media art exhibit that projects an almost infinite number of combinations of images onto high-tech windows that randomly change from transparent to translucent.

Woman swims B.C.'s second longest river

Ali Howard swam 600 kilometres of the Skeena River to raise awareness of two major industrial threats to the watershed. Along the way, she and her supporters met with people in dozens of communities and discussed their concerns about the river, which faces threats from a coalbed methane project and a pipeline from the tar sands of Alberta to the coast.

In the first hour, Ha Ska (Robert) Whitemountain, Hunkpapa Lakota, from the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, in South Dakota shared an important cultural message of hope. Whitemountain began by singing the Buffalo nation song about the Lakota people and sharing its message of healing. He went on to discuss his upcoming book "Indian Wars", and environmental issues from a Hunkpapa Lakota perspective. Throughout the sharing, Whitemountain's desire to improve the quality of life for all people was evident. "By talking about and resolving the Indian Wars we can create an avenue of healing; by looking at, talking about and resolving the Indian Wars. When we are able to end the Indian Wars together we can heal and work to do our part to help heal our precious Grandmother; earth." The time is now. Whitemountain ended by inviting listeners to visit the Institute and share in its numerous projects and activities over the summer. Whitemountain is a member of the Midnight Strong Heart Society and the founder and director of The Natural Law Institute located in the Bear Soldier community of South Dakota. In the second hour, Allison Thompson and Oscar Gubernati, Director and Producer of "The Third Wave", a documentary about the Tsunami in 2004 in Sri Lanka shared their experiences in creating an ad hoc refugee camp with other volunteers from all over the globe. Their struggles, their joys, but most important of all, their hearts in an extremely difficult yet miraculous journey. Thompson and Gubernati talked about their upcoming trip to Haiti to assist the people suffering in the aftermath of the last earthquake. "In a world of growing natural and man-made disasters, everyone is needed Gubernati stated. September 11th, Katrina, Pakistan, the Tsunami, Darfur – soon, we will have a tragedy for every date in the calendar. And with every new disaster that comes upon us, the old one fades away far before the recovery does." "As political animals, we have the intelligence and power to do so much. We can fly to the moon and unravel relativity theories and DNA codes, but the things we need to do now are a lot simpler than that. There are so many problems throughout the world including those directly in front of us." Their hope, in producing the film and the example of their lives is to encourage and inspire people to give a little back to the world. "As people, we have the power to impact and influence positive change." "It was our goal to have THE THIRD WAVE provide a genuine inside glimpse into what is really happening on the ground after a disaster. We inter-cut this reality together with what was being presented on the news reports around the world. The volunteers may make many mistakes, but the important thing was that they tried and that they were there to lend a hand and help make a difference." "Through common sense and the wish to help others we hope to encourage people to reach inside to pull out ‘the best in themselves. There is a hero in everyone.' In the thrid hour we spoke with MJ Ryan, author of "Adaptability: How to Survive Change You Didn't Ask For". Ryan discussed how to take any change in stride. “Change is hard,” she said, and it is even harder when change is forced upon us. In today’s tough times, we may be forced to reinvent our career or downsize our lives; at any point in life, we may lose a love or a dream. Our first reaction to change we didn’t ask for may be to rail against fate. But what if we could see past today’s turmoil and spot the opportunities that lie within unasked-for change?" Ryan provided strategies to retrain our brains and optimize our responses to change, step by step: by first accepting the new reality, then expanding our options, and finally, taking effective action. She offered tools for becoming calmer and less fearful, more flexible, creative and resourceful in thinking.
