Crazy Horse
Jan. 10, 2010, 11:08 a.m.
In his native American tongue his name literally means "His-Horse-is-Crazy" But at birth he was known as curly, because of light golden hair that curled.
During his first Vision Quest, Curly had a vivid dream of a rider in a storm on horseback People clutched at the rider, but could not hold him. A red-backed hawk flew over the riderâs head. When Curly reported the dream to his father, and the medicine man was consulted, the latter interpreted it as a sign of his sonâs future greatness in battle. The young man would become the famous Native American warrior, Crazy Horse

END:CIV Premise 10
Jan. 10, 2010, 4:34 a.m.
As I type this, leaders from the biggest industrialized nations are meeting in Copenhagen to discuss a possible treaty to diminish worldwide carbon emissions. As reported last month, it is already known that no deal will be reached during these talks. Many scientists say time is running out and others say itâs too late. Meanwhile in Canada, the forces of capitalism and industry are moving full force to extract the last bits of oil from the Alberta tar sands. The insanity of this project perfectly exemplifies Premise 10 from Derrick Jensenâs âEndgameâ

Cancer Prevention Educators Focusing on Pollutant Carcinogens
Jan. 9, 2010, 12:58 p.m.
The Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes (Ithaca, NY) and Clean NY (Capitol Region) are leaders in educating New Yorkers on how to avoid exposure to pollution that causes cancer. Sharon Kaplan of The Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes describes the Body Care Aware Project that she directs. You can minimize the exposures that your body experiences by avoiding the toxic chemicals in body care products. Reading labels on products is a must. There are safe alternatives on the market, or you can make your own. Katie Kelly directs the Healthy Home Parties Project for Clean NY. She teaches workshops on healthy home choices. Clean NY provides easy access to website educational kits covering numerous facets of creating a healthy home environment.
Where the people lead government will follow. Hopefully, this will hold true in the case of cancer prevention education. In order to accomplish the tremendous task of educating Americans on how to avoid exposure to pollution that causes cancer, government must join together with environmental health groups in bringing forward these messages.
