In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon after the Vernal Equinox which was used to indicate the first day of spring; they called their new years rêš Å¡attim, 'beginning of the year'.. and it was tied closely to their planting time. They also had one heck of a celebrationâlasting 11 days to be exact. Each day represented a ritualistic step in integration with their main diety, Marduk. Babylonians apparently sang all types of songs throughout their festivities â one of which was a fairly hot love song to their goddess of sexuality and love, IÅ¡tar.

In this Part 2 of a two part interview, Billy and Pete tackle a few of the
most galvanizing issues that confront Musicians today, including Copyright rights of a Musicians material, business realtionships with record labels, booking agents and managers. They speak candidly of their personal experiences in the Music Industry and the strong bonds they formed with each other over their 25 years working together. Billy explains how he, and Pete, developed the Featured Artist Coalition (FAC), with a few other prominent British Musicians, as an education resource to help Musicians protect their rights to their own art. Also, Billy explains his "Jail Guitar Doors" music education project for prisoners, and the responsibility of rehabilitation of people convicted and imprisoned by the State. His work with Jail Guitar Doors, named after a song written by The Clash, has spread across England and helped provide an outlet for prisoners and their experiences inside.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, a panel of three federal judges issued a ruling that ordered the State of California to reduce its prison population by approximately 43,000 inmates over the next two years in order to meet constitutional standards. The ruling came in response to a class-action lawsuit that was filed in 2001 on behalf of California inmates by the Prison Law Office, an inmate advocacy group located in San Francisco.
In this interview on the Shedding Light radio show on December 28, 2009, David Lewis, Dorsey Nunn, Tandrea Madison and Henrietta J. Burroughs, talked with radio show host Byrd Hale to discuss why everyone should care about the release of these inmates and the potential impact the new parolees could have on their respective communities. The show participants also discussed what listeners can do to enable ex-prisoners to live productive and law-abiding lives. Criminalisation des mouvements sociaux à lâheure de la croisade anti-terroriste

à lâheure où les crimes dâÃtat sont de plus en plus banalisés sur la scène internationale et que le sécurité nationale prime sur les droits individuels et collectifs, le discours médiatique tend à façonner lâopinion publique en faisant un dangereux amalgame entre résistance populaire et terrorisme. Militer pour les droits sociaux, environnementaux ou humains est alors assimilé à des actes criminels, voir potentiellement terroristes.
Dans le cadre de la tournée au Canada dâune membre du Comité de Solidarité avec les Prisonniers Politiques de Colombie, le PASC, Tadamon !, le Comité de Solidarité autochtone de Montréal, et la Commission populaire souhaitent contribuer à lâanalyse des conséquences quâont les politiques et pratiques de sécurité sur les mouvements sociaux, dans un contexte mondial dominé par le discours sur la « guerre au terrorisme ».
Quel impact a le discours anti-terroriste sur nos organisations ou sur les communautés avec lesquelles nous travaillons ?
Quel espace reste-il aux organisations sociales et politiques qui tentent de résister aux politiques de régimes répressifs et injustes en Colombie ou en Palestine ?
Pourquoi les organisations autochtones qui entreprennent des actions pour revendiquer leur autodétermination, sont-elles identifiées comme de potentielles organisations terroristes par les services de renseignements canadiens ?
Comment le discours de « guerre au terrorisme » sert-il à justifier la mise sur pied de lois qui briment les droits fondamentaux et permettent le profilage racial et politique ?
Comment la chasse aux sorcières dirigée par lâOccident au nom de la lutte au terrorisme justifie et banalise des pratiques de terrorisme dâÃtat telle que la torture ?
Ce discours des Ãtats visant à associer mouvements de résistance et terrorisme, afin de délégitimer lâaction politique et la criminaliser, pose de nouveaux défis aux mouvements sociaux. Nous espérons que cette réflexion puisse nous mener à proposer ensemble des pistes de réflexion quant aux stratégies que nous devons mettre de lâavant ensemble pour réaffirmer la légitimité de nos actions et identités face à la potentielle criminalisation de nos organisations ou des luttes que nous appuyons.
