Less humorously, we also commemorate 2 unhappy anniversaries: the sack of Fallujah (2004) and the sack of Gaza (begun Dec. 27, 2008). "War is over, if you want it." Happy Christmas!

This is about the top 3 NCN personal musical 'idols' namely Trent Reznor, Roger Waters and Frank Zappa. The holy trinity, in other words. Excerpts of NIN remixes make up the glue of the program which muses (in regular intense stream of consciousness fashion) about what it means to live an artistic life, it's trappings, joys and challenges. C.J. Hawking is a United Methodist pastor and the executive director of Arise Chicago a faith based worker justice organization. Steven Ashby is an associate clinical professor in the Chicago Labor Education Program in the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois. Both were activists with the Chicago Staley Workers Solidarity Committee back in the early 1990âs. The Staley workers struggle in Decatur Illinois which began roughly in Fall of 1992 and came to a rather lamentable end in 1995, is one of the most important labor struggles in this country in the last 60 years. Unfortunately it has not been given the recognition it deserves over the past 15 years. C.J. & Steven have done their best to correct this historical oversight and have produced one of the most unique and significant works of labor history in recent years. Released last Summer, Staley: The Fight for a New American Labor Movement will not only become, I think, a classic but is essential reading for anyone who wants to better understand why organized labor is so moribund in the United States today and what needs to be done if the movement is to be transformed and workers are to start winning once again. In todayâs program, I will air part 1 of a 2 part interview with C.J & Steven about their new book.

Alternatives to Violence, The Power of Poetry to Heal and a Gathering of Four Directions

We live in a violent society....and violence comes in many forms. People are shocked by the increasing conflict on the streets, in our school and in the home. Violence knows no class, racial, economic or geographical boundaries. People in the US have twice the chance of being murdered than in many other Western countries. Our schools have resorted to metal detectors. Violence in the home, physical and mental, directed against both spouse and child is rampant. We lead the world in prison population, and our prisons, rather than protecting society from violence, spawn more violence. Over ninety percent of prisoners eventually return to society-- from a prison experience that encourages violence. This program is dedicated to ending violence.
AVP is.making a change in the way we respond to violence, and in the way we initiate violence ourselves.
Particpants are empowered to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect for all, community building, cooperation, and trust.
AVP encourages every person's innate power to positively transform themselves and the world. AVP is an association of community based groups and prison based groups offering experiential workshops in personal growth and creative conflict management. It is a nationwide and worldwide association of volunteer groups offering experiential workshops in conflict resolution, responses to violence, and personal growth.It is dedicated to reducing the level of violence in our society. Their goal is to reduce the level of violence by introducing people to ways of resolving conflict that reduce their need to resort to violence as the solution. The Alternatives to Violence Project is designed to create successful personal interactions and transform violent situations. We're dedicated to teaching the same non-violent skills and techniques that were used by Mohandas Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We do our training where violence is found.
