Sudanese-Canadian Abousfian Abdelrazik spent a year and a half in a Khartoum prison, where he says he was arrested at the request of CSIS and tortured by Sudanese officials. Back at home in Montreal, Abdelrazik is still trying to clear his name from a U.S. sponsored no-fly list.

OLYMPIC CRITIC DETAINED, QUESTIONED, AND REJECTED AT USA BORDER

Marla Renn, a member of the Olympic Resistance Network (ORN), was travelling to Portland, Oregon to speak on the negative impacts of the 2010 Games. Renn was scheduled to speak at educational events at Mt. Hood Community College, Reed College, Portland State University, and the Red and Black Cafe. She was held for over six hours as both Canadian and US border guards interrogated her about the subject of her speech, her contacts in Portland, and her political activities. She was previously denied entry for a Seattle speaking event on the grounds that ten anti-Olympic shirts were unauthorised commercial merchandise, but the shirts were found after she had already been questioned on political issues. Likewise, the excuse for rejecting her this time (lack of employment since her graduation in August) was brought up after her planned speech and political activities were addressed by border guards.

The Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act of 2009

Our society is now experiencing epidemic levels of diseases caused by exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). The damages to health caused by EDCs include: cancer, diabetes, sexual dysfunction, behavioral deficit disorders such as ADHD, and obesity. All of these outcomes have been observed in animal studies at extremely low levels of exposure. Epidemiological studies have shown that humans experience the same disease outcomes for numerous EDCs. The time for acting to protect public health based upon a large body of scientific knowledge is upon us.
Dr. Theo Colborn, President of the Endocrine Disruption Exchange, describes a bill recently introduced into Congress that serves to create a new research program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). Research fostered by the Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act of 2009 will focus on assessing the endocrine disrupting affects of chemical substances used in our economy. This legislative piece provides for transfer of the scientific knowledge generated at NIEHS to the national regulatory agencies, including: US EPA, US FDA, and USDA. It will then be the responsibility of these agencies to insure that the public is protected from exposure to those substances known to be EDCs.
It is essential that Americans call upon their members of Congress to make every effort to insure that the Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act becomes law. Corporations will mount a substantial opposition to passage of the Act. We must not let the lovers of money cheat us of protection from chemicals known to cause terrible harm. Getting this legislation and the rewriting of the Toxic Substances Control Act through Congress is critical to the continuance of human beings on this Earth. We are losing our way in a morass of pollutant exposure and disease. In the gathering darkness, we must take a firm hold on the bright light of scientific knowledge and persevere in bringing about the return of a healthful World. All it will take to restore the healthfulness of Nature is the courage to use what we know to control the use of chemicals regardless of the opposition of the bad corporate kings.

In the first hour, Joe Meyer, arbitrator and mediator for the NASD and NYSE and publisher of "Straight Money Analysis", provided an update on the current (and future) economic meltdown. He believes the rally in the stock market will end and that we are destined for another market crash. He predicted a second wave of home mortgage defaults when rates reset in 2010 and 2011. He believes the next bubble to burst is commercial real estate. This will lead to more bank defaults and further job losses. Meyer pointed out that 10 states have unemployment rates of 16-17%. He suggested setting up programs to put people to work in the public works sector, and what is required to take stock of the economic crisis and move forward.
Barbara Ehrenreich, best selling author of "Nickel and Dimed" and "Bright Sided", discussed the downside of optimism and how it contributes to the economic collapse and creates a culture of denial.
In the final hour, Cory Yberra discussed "Building for Generations", a worldwide movement for social justice for persons who have been marginalized.
