Locking up the homeless for the Winter Olympics

The B.C. Civil Liberties was leaked a government document detailing plans to detain homeless people against their will during severe weather. BCCLA executive director David Eby says it's a plan to get the homeless off the streets during the Olympics in February next year.

Salmon, grizzlies and the fall hunt

Chris Genovali of Raincoast Conservation Society says that salmon are critical for the health of bears. Poor salmon runs, and trophy hunting, are threatening B.C.'s bear population. He says Fisheries and Oceans Canada needs to set fishing quotas for the health of the ecosytem as a whole, not just for human consumption.

A history of Palestinian political organizing: part 1

Toufic Haddad is an American-Palestinian based in Jerusalem and a journalist for the on-line newspaper Faster Times. He is also the co-author of Between the Lines: Israel, the Palestinians, and the U.S. War on Terror. Haddad speaks with Mordecai Briemberg about the history of organizing efforts in Palestine from the 1930s to the 1990s. A concluding part of the interview deals with the period from the second intifada to the present.

A new study shows that a pre-paid transit pass program at two universities in Vancouver has dramatically increased transit use among students. The cost of the U-Pass is included in student fees at Simon Fraser University and the University of BC. Elizabeth Caitlin Cooper researched the effect it's had on transportation choices after students leave school.
