Gazan Journalist Mohammed Omer speaks at Harvard

This is the main body of Omer's talk at Harvard. Omer's family's home was bulldozed to the ground without warning. His mother is in the hospital recovering from injury sustained jumping out the kitchen window to save her life. His sister was killed. The shocking photos he shows are posted on Omer's website (RafahToday.org). Among them, UN ambulances shot up by Israeli soldiers.

Organisme colombien de défense des droits-humains qui accompagne depuis plus de 15 ans des communautés victimes de déplacement forcé dans leur recherche de vérité, de justice et de réparation intégrale. Sa conférence passera en revue les quatre phases de déploiement de la stratégie paramilitaire pour mieux comprendre le contexte colombien actuel et les intérêts économiques qui se cachent derrière la répression. Il mettra aussi en lumière comment la politique de "sécurité démocratique" du Président Uribe a débouché sur la persécution politique et judiciaire des membres des mouvements sociaux par l’État colombien, qui les accuse de rébellion ou même de terrorisme, pour avoir simplement osé défendre leurs droits. Cette conférence est organisée en collaboration avec l’Observatoire des Amériques (ODA). Elle se déroulera en espagnol avec traduction chuchoté vers le français. A string of recent deadly bombings has reminded the world that Iraq is still very much a war zone. Elections are coming in January, after which the US says it is going to speed up its withdrawal. Yet without any hint of irony, the US accuses Iran of "foreign interference". On this week's Fault Lines Josh Rushing talks to Christopher Hill, the US ambassador to Iraq, about these issues, and ask if America is finally ready to apologise for the devastating human costs of the war.

We learn that the CIA, the military-industrial-complex, the Pentagon, the multinational corporations, the media and the government of the United States are responsible for the deaths of millions of people in the third world, not to mention the poverty and oppression of millions more. We support, arm, and train dictators and militaries that do these evil actions to their own people. All of this is to ensure that we control the natural resources of these countries and their market place, use the people for cheap labor and keep the business of war (which is our biggest business) ongoing.
