Films being shown at the third annual Boston Palestine Film Festival

The third annual Boston Palestine Film Festival, already in progress, continues through Sunday, November 1, 2009. Each day there are several different films, some short, some feature-length. Their showings are distributed among three different venues including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard, and Kendall Square Theatre in Cambridge.
We decided that it might be worthwhile to hear descriptions of some of the films yet to run. We are honored that BPFF's distinguished coordinator, Salma Abu Ayyash, agreed to spend time with us describing these fabulous films and the stories and the people behind them. It is remarkable what we can learn of the lives and the suffering of Palestinians through the medium of their own art.

Mark Shepard gives a glowing account of how he found his way through struggles with anxiety and economic failure to a place of satisfaction and joy. He connected with Nature early in life. He learned how to deal with his emotions and thoughts via Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP). He followed his heart in doing the music that he loves. Mark's song, "Together We Can Change the World" is taking off as a worldwide hit right at the time when we really need to do just that for the good of all living things. Environmental activists working together can and are changing the world into a place of humans controlling their activities so as not to pollute and otherwise damage the Earth and its inhabitants. This is a millenial rising phenomenon. Many people are rising spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. I believe that soon we will be able to joyously say, "Among good spirits and the children of the Earth everything is alright."

This is a lost show from, fuck, I dunno, 2004 or so--the framing
structure is Evil Susie takes me out for her idea of a good time.
And ohhhh, I had forgotten how truly HORRIBLE this shit is!!! There's
an opening parody song that mocks the genre and sets the tacky mylared
stage for an ear-twisting pageant of unknown bar bands from all over
the fuckin' where--hack musicians and broke session men who travelled
around doing the circuit, drinking and drugging and fucking their way
through midwestern hellholes and southern shitpits, chasing the big
time which, for readily apparent reasons, continued to elude them.
Hopeful starstuck deluniacs of dubious talent performing under the
suspended ceilings of Rodeway Inn lounges, living the limited dream of
banging drunk broads and selling them vanity albums that they sold
from gig to gig out of their trunks. And then those broads died and
their kids dumped the records at the thrift store, where they fell
into my hands.
Heh heh heh.
It's a roster of greatness. From the wrong direction...
You'll stare in outraged bafflement at your stereo as you hear the
disco-era attempts of the totally unfunky TrebleAires flicking their
musical boogers on "Boogie Oogie Oogie." There's the smarmy Pacific
Rim charms of the Laughing Kahunas, a bunch of assorted horndog asian
guys who could pass for Hawaiian--they do "Cabaret" and then engage in
some painful banter. Then a trio of two beardo guys and a chick in
polyester named Trilogy do a long-ass Emerson Lake & Palmer thing that
the singer can't reach. And the worst of all, a two teenage brothers
and their little sister (from Marietta, no less) doing a version of
"Best of My Love" that'll curdle the milk in the mamacat's tits, so
move her away from the speakers, Tater. It's got some serious souring
power.
This show's got a baaaaad "My Way," too. And there are even a couple
versions of "Aquarius" thrown in, just for the PTSD set.
