Exhaust Pollution Prevention/With a Perspective on Tar Sands Air Pollution

Aug. 27, 2009, 9:41 a.m.
The exhaust emitted by engines that burn gasoline and diesel fuel is composed of a complex mixture of pollutants, including numerous human carcinogens: benzene, formaldehyde, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The amount of cancer risk that is imposed by exposure to these pollutants has not been assessed. Everyone is exposed to these carcinogens at biologically significant levels. Cancer risk can be reduced by making reasonable efforts to avoid exhaust exposure. Production of tar sands sourced fuels imposes a much larger quantity of pollutant carcinogen emissions on the environment than production of petroleum sourced fuels. This means that ambient levels of air pollutants such as those listed above will increase substantially as tar sands extraction activities continue to expand constituting an ever larger fraction of fuel supply. Stopping tar sands is an imperative for cancer prevention activists. The best way to stop tar sands is to buy less and then stop buying fossil fuels.

Feeding Dioxin Contaminated Animal Fat to Cows, Pigs, Fish and Poultry

Aug. 27, 2009, 8:24 a.m.
Dr. David Carpenter describes a commercial animal feeding practice that is the principle source of dioxins in the US food supply. The cows are fed the fat of poultry and pigs. Poultry and pigs are fed cow fat. Poultry is fed highly contaminated fish fat. US FDA has refused to take action on a Cancer Action NY petition requesting the banning of this practice. You need to learn why the US government and commercial beef, poultry and hog operations are deliberately feeding their livestock dioxin contaminated fats.
