Bill 42 was introduced in May 2008. It has a number of controversial provisions, including the requirement for voters to show photo ID. But the one that landed it in court was a limit on public interest advertising for three months before the election.

BDS campaign discussion with Ahmed Shokr and Maria Lewis

Shokr is a graduate student at NYU and an organizer of the international Israeli Apartheid Week taking place in more than 40 cities around the world between March 1st and March 8th, 2009. He has also been active in campaigns to boycott, divest from, and sanction the state of Israel. Ms. Lewis was suspended along with 17 other students for occupying the NYU cafeteria.
