Clients, however, had been on social assistance eight years at the outset of the Study, and the system took years to recognize their eligibility.

Survival challenges, cannibalism, and peak oil

A new film I saw recently reminded me of our predicament with respect to peak oil. Itâs called Stranded: I have come from a plane that crashed in the mountains. The film is based on the 1972 Andes flight disaster, where a team of Uruguayan rugby players crashed in the mountains on their way from Montevideo to Santiago, Chile.

Shutting down the spring grizzly bear hunt in B.C.

The provincial bear hunt will open on April 1 allowing grizzly bears to be shot by trophy hunters in B.C. Grizzly bears are designated as "vulnerable" by the province and "a species of special concern" by the federal government. In 2007, a record 430 grizzlies were killed, the majority of them by hunters.
