Prison suicide of Ashley Smith

In 2007, a disturbed teenager strangled herself to death as prison officials watched. The report of the resulting investigation was released last week. Kim Pate is executive director of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies. She knew Ashley Smith and speaks about the circumstances that led to her death.

She returned to Vancouver last fall with a new collection of stories, The Slow Fix, published by Arsenal Pulp Press. The book launch for The Slow Fix took place on March 6 at Rhizome Café in Vancouver. We're delighted to be able to bring you a recording of this event.
Egypt's role in Gaza truce talks

However, Professor Amal Ghazal says another agenda being pursued behind all this talk and related conferences in Halifax. Ghazal is a professor of modern Middle East history at Dalhousie University.
The true cost of public-private partnerships

Provincial and federal governments have been pushing public-private partnerships for more than a decade. Critics says that P3s are a more expensive option and that governments like them because they hide the public debt. The Canadian Union of Public Employees commissioned a prominent Vancouver accounting firm to do an audit of P3s. We speak about the report with Kathy Corrigan, a researcher at CUPE.
