This set the stage for a raid by what teachers call a company union backed by the SEIU. Steve Early is a Boston-based labour journalist. Ontario Power and nuclear energy

The McGuinty government says it's going to reduce greenhouse gases and develop sources of renewable energy. At the same time, the Ontario Power Authority is implementing a strategy to revamp old nuclear energy plants and build more new ones. Shawn-Patrick Stensil is an energy and climate change campaigner with Greenpeace Canada. He wrote the report "Better Never Than Late: The Climate Fall-Out of Ontario's Nuclear Electricity Plan".

Victory for laid-off workers in Chicago

An occupation at the Republic Doors and Windows plant in Chicago has won workers there a settlement worth $1.75 million. Workers will get 60 days pay, health insurance and accrued vacation. What's more, their union has formed a new foundation, Windows of Opportunity, devoted to reopening the factory.

When a private security guard approached them saying he'd quit his job because he was being asked to violate the rights of poor people, they decided to find out more.
