August Review: Back to the Futures
Sept. 1, 2021, 3:06 p.m.
In 2021, Kyle and Dan are typical mid-life crisis aged men looking for a career change. In Tucson, Dan is bullied by his supervisor, who claims trading is the same as gambling. An aspiring musician, Dan's band is rejected for a music contest. He confides in his girlfriend about fears of becoming like his supervisor despite his ambitions.
That night, Dan and Kyle meet their eccentric trading friend George "Big Papa" Papazov in the China Shop parking lot. Big Papa unveils a time tested futures trading course, powered by sheer charisma and (and plutonium he imports from Libyan terrorists). Big Papa sets the guys loose on his trading program, in exchange for a flimsy promise to hang out some time. Unfortunately, those same terrorists find Big Papa just as he starts up the training program is unceremoniously gunned down. This leaves the guys with no choice but to finish the courses and save George by mastering the future(s)!
Ok, for real... Neither of us did much trading over the month of August as we were both focusing on learning how to trade futures. As George is the futures king of kings, he came back to talk to us about our progress and answer our questions. He also was bound by law of The Bet to settle up. Dan also got his consequences and George shares some (not advice) tips to get out of a trading funk.

with
Darlene Carpenter, Janelle Lambert-Watkins; Christine Brown; Darlene Carpenter, Local 358, Richmond Virginia, Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco workers & Grainmillers Union
They don/t care about frontline workers. They only care about the almighty dollar. Were tired of getting stepped on and treated like trash. Weve had enough.
"Rusty Lewis, Nabisco worker
The workers who bake and ship Oreos, Chips Ahoy, and Ritz crackers have gone on strike in 5 states. If Nabisco can rake in billions of dollars in corporate profits, says Darlene, they can afford to treat their workers with dignity and respect. Nabisco shut down food processing facilities in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and Atlanta, Georgia, two of its last five remaining food processing facilities in the United States. Those plants had been around for generations, and 1,000 workers lost union jobs. Workers in the remaining facilities are concerned that their jobs will soon be headed to Mexico, where two other Nabisco plants have opened in recent years and where the horribly exploited Mexican workers are paid less than $1/hr. "Theres a constant threat of if you dont agree to concessions, we'll leave," but while Nabiscos parent company, multinational confectionery corporation Mondelez International says get back the workers fightback and are striking for better working conditions, an end to foreign outsourcing, and the withdrawal of a company plan that would scrap the companys current guaranteed overtime pay system.

Yanis Varoufakis: Capitalism has become Techno-Feudalism
Aug. 31, 2021, 7:16 p.m.
Techno-Feudalism is a term thatâs in the news these days. It may mean control of the data by the few FAANG companies - thatâs Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix; and Alphabet - formerly known as Google. Techno-Feudalism also applies to the dominance of finance and banking over state institutions - driving huge wealth inequalities.
Yanis Varoufakis is the former finance minister of Greece and Professor of Economics at the University of Athens. He is cofounder of the Democracy in Europe Movement DiEM25. Thatâs a pan-European political movement founded in 2016 by a group of Europeans, including philosophers and activists. They see the European Union becoming a technocratic superstate and aim to create a more democratic Union.
Yanis Varoufakis is the author of many book - the most recent are:
Another Now: Dispatches from an Alternative Present, 2020
Talking to My Daughter About the Economy, 2017
Adults in the Room: My Battle With Europe's Deep Establishment. 2017
Varoufakis is being interviewed Dr Marc Lamont Hill. He is Professor of Media, Cities, and Solutions at Temple University, and an award-winning journalist and author. His latest acclaimed book is âWe Still Here: Pandemics, Policing, Protest and Possibilityâ. It follows on the success of âNobody: Casualties of Americaâs War on the Vulnerable from Flint to Fergusonâ. He is host of âUp Frontâ on Al Jazeera.
Rebecca Leber: Breaking Down Biden's Climate Plan
Aug. 31, 2021, 4:04 p.m.
The infrastructure bill currently being negotiated in Congress includes some important climate-related allocations. Environmentalists, of course, feel it doesnât go far enough, while Republicans have already voiced opposition to the climate protections embedded in the bill. This week on Sea Change Radio, we talk to Rebecca Leber, an environmental reporter at Vox who has been covering the story. We take a deep dive into what the bill aims to do, look at the politics surrounding it, and discuss what it could mean not only for the US but for the international environmental community. And as the dog days of summer begin to wind down, we also examine some of the problems with our reliance on air conditioning.

Afghan hopes depend on regional cooperation
Aug. 30, 2021, 3:52 p.m.
The Taliban provided security and assistance enabling the Americans and their allies to exit Kabul airport, but the arrogant and ideologically-driven Western media ignored the facts and reported the story as Marines facing Muslim fanaticism.
The danger in this self-centered narrative is that it easily becomes a pretext for renewed intervention.

Lab Leak and Other Anti-China Conspiracy Theories
Aug. 30, 2021, 12:07 p.m.
***I found an error in my previous uploads of this talk. These are the corrected versions.***
Audio from a webinar sponsored by Workers World Party: workers.org
Rather than change course from the disastrous policies of former President Donald J. Trump, the Biden administration has doubled down on the deadliest failures of the U.S. COVID response. The U.S. capitalist state is refusing to put modest safety protocols and lockdown procedures in place despite the skyrocketing infection rate of the even more deadly and contagious Delta variant.
Meanwhile, President Biden and other U.S. lawmakers are hell bent on blaming the COVID catastrophe on China. The U.S. deliberately sabotaged a collective effort to learn more about the origins of the novel coronavirus by calling for the World Health Organization to focus solely on the laboratory in Wuhan, China.
China has asked, why not also look at Fort Dietrich and 200 other U.S. labs? Why not investigate the earlier outbreaks before Wuhan in Italy, Spain, and France? Why is the U.S. choosing competition and protecting patents over global cooperation? What is billionaire Bill Gates' role in all of this?
Join revolutionaries in the U.S. and China for this necessary pushback on lab leak theory and the Cold War being waged against China and the entire global working class.
