Conversation between Brian Eno and David Graeber

Even though Brian Eno and David Graeber both had become internationally famous by 2014, the musician, visual artist and culture critic Brian Eno and the Professor of anthropology, author and co-founder of Occupy Wall street, David Graeber had not yet met in person. And here, thanks to the creative concepts of Artangel, they met on stage for an improvised conversation. Artangel is a London-based arts organization that has - since 1985 - commissioned and produced notable site-specific works in unexpected places, plus several projects for TV, film, radio and the web. Michael Morris is the co-director. He is introducing Brian Eno and David Graeber. These are excerpts of their 80 minute conversation on Occupy Wall street, democracy compared to anarchism, and the need to protect the first amendment right of assembly from police permits and superior rights of traffic and automobiles. The Revolutionary King: MLKs The Three Evils of Society, "the sickness of racism, excessive materialism and militarism" and his prophetic work then for the path forward today! with Dr. Clayborne Carson, African American professor of history at Stanford University, and director of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Research and Education Institute. Since 1985 he has directed the Martin Luther King Papers Project, a long-term project to edit and publish the papers of Martin Luther King, Jr. For anyone that is preoccupied with the current local-global condition affecting the human family with the visible ravages of racism eating at our soul, poverty's death march and the ever expanding military industrial complex cancer devouring everything in sight our two-hour special The Revolutionary King will truly aid us on our journey to become more affective agents for social change. On Aug. 31, 1967, Reverend Martin Luther King delivered The Three Evils of Society speech at the National Conference on New Politics, which is the most prophetic and revolutionary address to date on the questions of militarism, poverty, and racism. "We are now experiencing the coming to the surface of a triple prong sickness" was how MLK framed the problem that "has been lurking within our body politic from its very beginning." Identifying "the sickness of racism, excessive materialism and militarism" and considering the three problems as the "plaque of western civilization." Dr. King understood that the Civil Rights and Black Liberation Movement was from the outset a battle against the system itself. At the time of the speech, MLK was facing increasing white opposition to black empowerment and equality, an expansion of crony capitalism and open ended commitment to military expenditures on the Vietnam war that all together led to deepening poverty and rising discontent in the African American community. The conditions in today's America and the world resemble what MLK described in "The Three Evils of Society" speech in 1967. MLK spoke of America's "schizophrenic personality on the question of race" with two conflicting personalities. One professing "the great principles of democracy" and another that practices its antithesis. Every step forward in confronting racism in America has an equal step backward, which MLK perceptively identified as the white backlash -- the "old prejudices, hostilities and ambivalences that have always been there. The white backlash of today is rooted in the same problem that has characterized America ever since the black man landed in chains on the shores of this nation." Racism, for MLK, was that "corrosive evil that will bring down western civilization" and white backlash was nothing more than good old White Supremacy that is never content with equality.

Novax Djokovic cancelled, Will Boris be forced out over 'partygate?

The president of the Serb parliament, Ivica Dacic, said he expected Australia’s immigration minister, Alex Hawke, to revoke Djokovic’s visa on Tuesday, Milivoje Pantovic reports. “Obviously the Australian authorities will decide to deport Djokovic, who will then not be able to enter Australia for the next three years,” said Dacic, a former Serbian prime minister whose Socialist Party is part of the ruling coalition. Dacic said the incident would leave “a lasting mark on relations between Serbia and Australia. “Every state has the discretionary right to refuse or allow entry to any person, but it never happens to prominent people such as Djokovic,” he said. “That is something you rarely see. In general, [Australia’s] behaviour has been shameful and disgraceful.”

Combating Sexual Violence Through Solidarity and Awareness

Back in the USSR begins 2022 in conversation with Jensen Williams, the Public Educator of Guelph-Wellington Women In Crisis, a local feminist community-based organization providing support services to women experiencing abuse and sexual violence. Specifically, we discuss how the ongoing pandemic has exacerbated the threat of gender-based violence for huge numbers of women across Canada and how capitalism and economic austerity have fueled this violence in many ways. We explore how state violence regularly intersects with gender-based violence and the role that colonialism and racism plays in this. But above all, we focus on how people can take action in their own communities and organizations to confront and defeat this violence so that the right to live in peace can be realized by all. This is what's going on.

COVID: Biden needs cooperation with China, not sabotage

Just prior to the pandemic, Trudeau cut funding to the Canadian pandemic planning committee. Likewise, Doug Ford cut funding to public health units, and dismissed 1000s of Ontario nurses. Socialist countries have done miles better than their capitalist counterparts because the former understand the importance of public health. Western capitalist leaders have gone out of their way to show animosity towards the People's Republic of China in particular, although Chinese COVID deaths total only 4,700 for a population of 1.4 billion. Canada has 30,218 deaths, with a population of 38 million. What did Canada do wrong? The World Health Organization's Canadian representative Dr. Bruce Aylward, applauded the Chinese effort in isolating, contact tracing and stopping transmission of the virus. In contrast, populations in the West are divided, don't trust their governments, or Big Pharma. The main takeaway: Canada needs a people's republic, not a constitutional monarchy, in order to look after Canadians' basic needs. Meanwhile, U.S. President Biden has set himself the task of preventing China from economically surpassing the USA on his watch. To do so, he has been sabotaging China in the most confrontational manner. On the other hand, China says it would prefer to co-operate with the U.S., based on mutual respect, on the big problems facing the whole world, such as climate change. Biden's new strategy regarding China is to ignore the international bodies which monitor labour standards. Instead, the USA will establish its own monitoring body, and make itself judge and jury of China's labor practices.
