Sonic Cafe #251/Scary Good, Old School Cover Tunes
Aug. 19, 2021, 8:39 a.m.
Sonic Café, thatâs the Art of Noise featuring Tom Jones with a cover of the Prince tune Kiss. So ahh welcome Iâm Scott Clark and this is episode 251. This time the Sonic Café takes it old school baby, with a mix of cover tunes so great theyâre scary! Every song weâll hear was originally released between 1958 and 1986, so now, even the covers are oldies. So ahh, listen for Kansas covering the Beatles, Billy Idol covering the Doors, the Supersonic Blues Machine covering Bobby Bland, Kandace Springs covering War, and well you get the idea. Also listen for a comedic quick take from Ryan Singer, whoâs absolutely convinced Aliens built the pyramids. And before we forget, an Affordable Care Sized welcome to our newest sponsor. Listen for a word from Cheyenne Dialysis, offering great dialysis deals every day. They chose this episode because for some reason, oldies just seem to attract the right audience. Anyway, enough of that. Hereâs Cheap Trick with theyâre cover of the song Elvis made famous way back in 1958, an old school cover tune so great itâs scary! Weâre the Sonic Café.
Elana Rozenman - "Jewish, Muslim & Christian Understanding"
Aug. 18, 2021, 9:52 p.m.
In June, 2002 I overheard an American woman now living in Israel passionately describe her belief that teaching children to be suicide bombers is the worst form of child abuse imaginable. I invited Elana Radley Rozenman, an organizer of the Womenâs Interfaith Encounter, a group of Muslim, Christian and Jewish women who meet regularly in Jerusalem, to be our guest on this edition of Radio Curious.
Elana Rozenman recommends âYet a Stranger: Why Black Americans Still Donât Feel at Home,â Debra Mathis.

Welcome to "The Radio Art Hour," a show where art is not just on the radio, but is the radio. "The Radio Art Hour" draws from the Wave Farm Broadcast Radio Art Archive, an online resource that aims to identify, coalesce, and celebrate historical and contemporary international radio artworks made by artists around the world, created specifically for terrestrial AM/FM broadcast, whether it be via commercial, public, community, or independent transmission. Come on a journey with us as radio artists explore broadcast radio space through poetic resuscitations and playful celebrations/subversions of the complex relationship between senders and receivers in this hour of radio about radio as an art form. "The Radio Art Hour" features introductions from Philip Grant and Tom Roe, and from Wave Farm Radio Art Fellows Karen Werner and Jess Speer. The Conet Project's recordings of numbers radio stations serve as interstitial sounds. Go to wavefarm.org for more information about "The Radio Art Hour" and Wave Farm's Radio Art Archive.

Professor Hatem Bazian responds to Zionist myths
Aug. 17, 2021, 5:48 p.m.
This week Professor Hatem Bazian casts a critical eye on some of the myths that direct the Zionist narrative. He underscores how the racism and inhumanity of the colonialist project and the inconsistencies of the Biblical narrative clash with archeological and historical reality that reveals truths that explode Zionist myths. Bazian is a professor of Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, he is co-founder and assistant professor at Zaytuna College, the only accredited American college in which the curriculum is based on Islamic fundamentals. Finally, he is a co-founder of Students for Justice in Palestine.
Nuclear Weapons in Space and Ground Stations for War in Space
Aug. 17, 2021, 5:09 p.m.
In May and June 2021 Will Griffin released two short films on the recent expansion of nuclear power into Space and on the secrecy surrounding the upgrade of a US radar installation on Norwegian soil.
These two short films are posted on the the website of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. Thatâs an international organization founded in 1992 with an unbroken record of education and activism on a rarely covered topic, the Weaponization of Space.
For the first film, published on May 6, 2021, Will Griffin writes in his summary: The Pentagon and multinational corporations are privatizing outer space ⦠Laws are being implemented in order to benefit billionaires, compromising decades-long international treaties that say space cannot be owned. American capitalism is colonizing Mars, privatizing asteroids and other celestial bodies
His second film was posted on June 1, 2021. He gave it the title: Dangerous US NATO Expansion in Norway - and his synopsis says: In recent years, the US and NATO have been militarizing the Arctic through Norway as a means to confront Russia. As the Arctic melts away, these powerful nations are competing for dominance in the region as new sea routes are established, building new military bases, and constructing new radars.
Will Griffin is an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, and creator of The Peace Report, an online source for antiwar & nonviolent news for peace & justice. He is a filmmaker and travels the world visiting and documenting U.S. military bases. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. Their mission is to âbuild global awareness and active participation to âprotect space from escalating debris in orbit, militarization and weaponization, the extension of nuclear power into the heavens and concerns about ozone depletionâ caused by the ever increasing numbers of rocket launches.
Rod Graham: Color-Consciousness Not Colorblindness
Aug. 17, 2021, 4:03 p.m.
Many of us grew up under the impression that "colorblindness," or pretending not to see racial differences was virtuous. An important contribution of critical race theory, however, is the recognition that the colorblind philosophy is tantamount to ignoring racial injustice. This week's guest on Sea Change Radio, Dr. Rod Graham, a professor of sociology and criminal justice at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia and a contributor to The Editorial Board, espouses color-consciousness over colorblindness. We discuss the racial divide in America, what bridge-building across race might look like, and why majority rule cannot be counted on to advance the rights of a minority group.

#702 -- Human Resources, Part 3 (R)
Aug. 17, 2021, 2:44 p.m.
Scott Noble's wide-ranging and fine documentary film of 2010. It's about the many attempts--some fairly successful--to reduce human beings to mere "cogs in the machine"--in order to further increase the wealth and power of the elite.
This week's installment shows psychology's "frustration-aggression" principle used as a means of social control. One predictable result of the human frustration "The System" creates is mass murder--as shown in the case of James Huberty.
