Daphne Wysham: Pulling The Methane Emergency Brake
July 22, 2025, 9:24 p.m.
Sometimes seemingly intractable problems are not as impossible to solve as one might think. A case in point is the hole in the ozone layer which was largely resolved by the fluorocarbon-banning policies that stemmed from the 1987 Montreal Protocol. Over the years, we have spoken with one of the key crafters of this historic treaty, Durwood Zaelke, a couple of times on Sea Change Radio and this week we talk with Daphne Wysham, whose organization, Methane Action, is working with Zaelke and others to figure out a way to reduce methane emissions from the atmosphere. We discuss the existential threat humans face by emitting all of this methane, look at some of the barriers and possible solutions to the problem and learn about the Methane Emergency Brake campaign that Wysham and Zaelke helped create.

Prof. Steven Starr: Radiation Contamination of Japan with Radioactive Cesium from Fukushima, TUC Archive
July 21, 2025, 12:41 a.m.
Steven Starr says: Long lived radio-nuclides such as Cesium 137 are something new to us as a species. Although they are invisible to our senses they are millions of times more poisonous than most of the common poisons we are familiar with. They emit radiation, invisible formsof matter and energy, that we might compare to fire. Its not a fire that can be scattered of suffocated because it burns at the atomic level, it comes from the disintegration of single atoms.
Starr gives an update as to what people in Japan are facing now and into the future. He explains how Cesium 137 is created in the Nuclear Power Plant and how it disperses and continues to move. How it enters the body, mainly via contaminated food, and bio-accumulates in humans, plants and animals.
In 2013 Starr was Senior Scientist with Physicians for Social Responsibility, and Clinical Laboratory Science Program Director at the University of Missouri. Today (Sept. 2024) Professor Starr is still teaching his class: Environmental, Health and Social Effects of Nuclear Weapons at the University of Missouri. And he publishes with the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and the Federation of American Scientists. His website is nuclearfamine.org where he maintains up to date lists of the unknown, deadly consequences of nuclear war.
He was recorded on March 11, 2013, at the New York Academy of Medicine. Thanks to Helen Caldicott and her Foundation that organized the event, and to the cosponsor Physicians for Social Responsibility.

Nuclear War and the Devastating Power of Nuclear Weapons
July 21, 2025, 12:36 a.m.
When Penguin Random House prepared the release of Annie Jacobsens most recent book: Nuclear War, A Scenario; for early 2024, they did not anticipate that it would appear at a time of heightened risk of a nuclear war.
The risks include casual threats of the use of nuclear weapons over Ukraine or in the Middle East; as well as the actual attacks or threats to the nuclear plants in Ukraine and Russia.
Annie Jacobsen's book is based on dozens of exclusive interviews with military and civilian experts who built the modern nuclear weapons and launch systems.
Annie Jacobsen and Professor Steven Starr explain how nuclear weapons and the highly automated systems that set them off, have become so much more deadly than in the early 1990s, when we thought we had ended the Cold War.
Professor Steven Starr teaches the class: Environmental, Health and Social Effects of Nuclear Weapons at the University of Missouri. His most recent book is: Nuclear High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse: A Mortal Threat to the U.S. Power Grid and U.S. Nuclear Power Plants.

It was a privilege to have him on the show and learn about his remarkable journey—from founding the Native band XIT, to initially managing the band before stepping into the role of lead singer. XIT made history as the first Native American band to sign with a major record label, and Tom’s extraordinary career later earned him two Grammy Awards. 6) Writing the song "Red Hot," recorded by Taka Boom (sister of Chaka Khan) a top Billboard Disco Dance Chart hit.
7) Writing the song "Don't Be Two Faced," recorded by the top selling rockabilly artist Shakin' Stevens for his highly successful album "the Bop Won't Stop."
8) Working with legendary Producer Gary S. Paxton (Alley Oop by the Hollywood Argyles, Monster Mash by Bobby Boris Pickett, and Cherish by the Association).

The genocide in Gaza isn’t just a tragedy—it’s a global business.
Over 60 multinational corporations are profiting from Israel’s war machine.
Weapons companies like Lockheed Martin and Boeing supply the bombs.
Tech giants like Google and Palantir provide surveillance and AI targeting.
Caterpillar and Volvo profit from bulldozers that demolish Palestinian homes.
Booking.com and Airbnb list rentals on stolen land in illegal settlements.
Investors like BlackRock and Vanguard fund and deepen this complicity.
Western governments—especially the U.S., UK, Germany, and France—enable it all.
Arab regimes stay silent, tighten borders, or normalize ties with Israel.
Meanwhile, Palestinians suffer—and the world watches in real-time.
