The U.S. Space Force - Interview with Bruce Gagnon, co-founder of Space4Peace

June 15, 2021, 7:02 p.m.
At the end of December 2019 then President Donald J. Trump signed into law legislation creating the first new armed service since 1947 — the U.S. Space Force. In February 2021 President Joe Biden declared that he will not seek to eliminate the Space Force and roll military space functions back into the Air Force. Instead he increased the funding of the Space Force in the defense budget proposal for 2022. Bruce Gagnon has dedicated his life and energy, and inspired so many others along the way, to organize against the weaponization of space. He cofounded the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space in 1992. In two recent conversations among friends in February and June of 2021 the film maker Regis Tremblay began by asking Bruce Gagnon about STRATCOM, the U.S. Strategic Command. Bruce Gagnon explains why he wrote that STRATCOM is a danger to the world and how it relates to the new Space Force. The website of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space can be found under: Space4Peace.org They are keeping track of the current expansion of the U.S. Space Force and the unchecked intrusion into space by corporations and a few billionaires. Bruce Gagnon was interviewed by the filmmaker Regis Tremblay who posts frequent interviews on his YouTube channel under user/tremregi

Sammy Roth: Shutting Down Diablo Canyon

June 15, 2021, 4:02 p.m.
We are on the brink of the hottest months of the year. For those of us in California this means getting ready for the nuisance of rolling blackouts, as the power grid gets stretched beyond its capacity. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak to Sammy Roth of the Los Angeles Times about the ongoing challenge to transform electricity in the nation's most populous state. First, we learn about California's last nuclear plant, the soon-to-be shuttered Diablo Canyon, and examine the pros and cons of shutting down a plant that produces almost 10% of the state's energy portfolio. Then we take a look at how NIMBYism, the local backlash against proposed development, plays a role in the switch to renewable power sources.

G7 commentary

June 15, 2021, 3:58 p.m.
Alarm bells should be ringing for peace activists who care about international law and the future of the UN. The G7 adopted Biden's tired old campaign slogan Build Back Better. This time arrogantly adding the word "World". The G7 talks like the old colonial powers, dictating to the less "wealthy." Further, it presumes to target and undermine China, a developing country. The G7 also plans hypocritically to use 'human rights' as a weapon versus China. Its first target will be to undercut the authority of international multilateral organizations, such as the WHO and the UN. In its latest example, the U.S. has found a way to prevent Venezuela from accessing COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX program.

Haiti vs. Imperialism and Neocolonialism - Yesterday and Today

June 15, 2021, 2:18 p.m.
Audio from a webinar organized by U.S. Peace Council: https://uspeacecouncil.org/ You can watch the webinar at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJKjDgYP1dw At the end of the 18th century, two profound political processes unfolded. One, in 1776, led to the formation of the USA, which went on to dominate the African Slave Trade. The other, ignited in 1791, led to the Haitian Revolution, which precipitated a general crisis of the entire slave system that could be resolved only with its collapse, not least in the U.S. itself in 1865. Unfortunately, those who feasted on free labor have not forgotten and will never forgive Haiti, including today when the USA, Canada and the European Union (especially France) continue to interfere maliciously in Haiti's internal affairs. Moderator: Henry Lowendorf Speakers: Professor Gerald Horne, University of Houston Professor Jemima Pierre, University of California Los Angeles

Messages were written to share thoughts about climate change and personal promises were made to take action and ensure a safe and healthy world for future generations. "Dear Tomorrow" has also created a special musical tribute. It features loving and grateful messages for dads, stepdads, and mentors who nurture us.
