Hurricanes & Climate Change: Dr. Jennifer Francis
Oct. 13, 2020, 5:37 p.m.
Jennifer Francis became Senior Scientist at the Woods Hole Research Center after being a research professor at Rutgers Universityâs Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences.
She gave an interview to Miami Herald reporter Alex Harris on Hurricanes & Climate Change a day after the beginning of the official annual hurricane season that goes from June first to November 30th, giving a forecast that in essence came true.
Live on Zoom this became one of the most detailed and fact-filled conversations about how natural phenomena such as El Nino and La Nina, and even dust storms from the Sahara desert, interact with warmer oceans and one foot higher sea levels and changes in the ocean currents that make hurricane seasons longer and stronger. All this plays out in the Gulf of Mexico and up the East of the US
Alex Harris is staff reporter for the Miami Herald with an impressive grad student level of understanding of the science.

Howard Frumkin: Time For A Planetary Checkup
Oct. 13, 2020, 2:48 p.m.
When a member of your household feels unwell, a good first step is to find the thermometer â if thereâs a fever, it could be something serious. Well, these days our planet is exhibiting signs of illness, from swarms of locusts in East Africa and southwest Asia, to the smoke spreading from Californiaâs infernos, to a massive release of greenhouse gasses from once-frozen, now-burning Siberia. And Covid itself may serve as both a metaphor and an exemplar of the inextricable connection between the planetâs health and that of our species. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak to Howard Frumkin, a physician and environmentalist who recently coauthored a book entitled Planetary Health: Protecting Nature to Protect Ourselves. We talk about how the pandemic exposes planetary health issues related to food, population, and politics, and touch on what we can do to bring the patientâs fever down.

For a longer, extremely thorough talk by Khalidi alone, watch the video at https://youtu.be/yp1hxZMocS4.
Explaining the book's title, the Balfour Declaration was issued in 1917, 100 years before Khalidi intended to finish this book. (It's still a hundred if you round to the nearest 10!) However, the first inklings of Zionist war against the people of Palestine were in 1899 or earlier.
