Dr. John Campbell: Corona Virus - What we need to know now
March 10, 2020, 10:29 p.m.
In the first week of March 2020, as the world was trying to understand the new Corona Virus, this extraordinary conversation was posted in the weekly line-up of Radio Ecoshock.
My fellow broadcaster and friend Alex Smith reached Dr. John Campbell in Britain and asked him about the medical science and epidemiology of the Corona virus. Dr. Campbell is a retired Nurse Teacher and A and E nurse based in England. He also does some teaching in Asia and Africa. He publishes daily on Youtube under Campbellteaching. These videos help students learn the background to all forms of health care. He currently posts on the spread of the Corona virus. A film posted yesterday had 1/4 million views in 24 hours.
Alex Smith gave me permission to broadcast excerpts from this information packed one hour radio program from ecoshock. Smith is the founder and host of Radio Ecoshock, 14 years on the air. Syndicated to around 100 mostly public radio stations Radio Ecoshock has become a vital information link to the latest climate science.
Now is the time to emulate Bethune
March 10, 2020, 7:18 p.m.
Phil Taylor and Norman Otis Richmond talk about the great Canadian figure, Norman Bethune. In this time of Coronavirus panic, it is important to remember the selflessness and co-operation that Bethune promoted. Bethune is possibly the most popular Canadian in the entire world. There was even an opera performed about him in 2005 in Toronto.
Not only did he help advance the state of medicine, and support revolutionary struggles, but Bethune also prefigured Canada's system of socialized medicine. All countries can have a similar system, but the U.S. will first have to abandon notions of its own exceptionalism in that regard.
What The Truck? Vehicle Expert Jim Motavalli
March 10, 2020, 11:18 a.m.
Did you know that the three best selling vehicles in America are all pickup trucks? This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with auto expert Jim Motavalli about the truck craze which is now well into its third decade. He helps us understand how, in this era of eco-vehicle innovation, gas guzzlers still rule the day in the USA. Then we discuss the latest developments in the electric vehicle space, examine the phenomenon that is Tesla, and talk about ways that car-owners may reduce their carbon footprints.
International Women's Day
March 10, 2020, 8:51 a.m.
Sunday March 8 2020 was International Womenâs Day, originally founded as International Working Womenâs Day by Clara Zetkin and other women in the international socialist movement in 1910. International Womenâs Day 2020 was ground-breaking and radical in its own right, particularly in Latin America, where millions upon millions of women to the streets in cities across the region to protest against growing inequality, rising rates of femicide and anti-women violence, as well as reactionary laws against abortion. In Chile alone, two million women marched in the capital Santiago as part of ongoing protests against the right-wing neo-liberal regime of Sebastian Pinera, whose crackdown on dissent has involved numerous assaults and sexual crimes against women protesters. Several Womenâs Day demonstrations were the targets of police violence on Sunday, including in France and Turkey. Women across the entire world are fighting back bravely against the patriarchal systems imposed upon them and are refusing to be silent; fighting for a world where their rights, their equality, their dignity are non-negotiable. Just as is the case with the Wetâsuwetâen solidarity protests, women are leading the way all over the world in the struggle for liberation.

"Head to Head" with Schlomo Ben Ami, Diana Buttu, and 2 others
March 9, 2020, 5:34 p.m.
We found a fascinating British show called "Head to Head", which features sort of a debate format. This particular week featured a discussion between Zionists Schlomo Ben Ami, and Paul Charney facing Palestinian attorney Diana Buttu and new historian and author, Avi Schlaim. It is moderated by Mehdi Hassan and takes place at the Oxford Union in the UK.
See whether you notice any parallels between the so-called "Liberal Zionists," who do much of the talking in this episode, and so-called "liberals" in the USA.

#627 -- Ralph Nader and Chris Hedges (R)
March 9, 2020, 1:05 p.m.
A classic dialogue--from 2015--between two great Progressive activists and essayists. They discuss
* the corruption of the System, including the Democratic Party
* the rule the 1%
* the plight of college students and others in the ravaged American economy
* the necessity of nonviolent popular rebellion
And they agree that--by staying within the corrupt and corporate-controlled Democratic Party--Left-ish presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is doing more harm than good.

Free After 42 Years For A Crime The State Knows Delbert Africa Didnât Commit!
with
Delbert Africa, political prisoner, 42 yrs., member of the Move 9
and
Dan Thomson, works at the Peopleâs Law Office as a civil rights and criminal defense lawyer.
One of the great open wounds of the 1970s black liberation struggle came closer to being healed with the release of Delbert Orr Africa, a member of the Move organization, a collective guided by the principles of natural law, who fought against corrupt government, racism and the degradation of people of African-ancestry, who has been imprisoned for 42 years for a crime he did not commit. Delbert recounts the crime the state perpetrated against him and his Move family, on August 8, 1978, a date of infamy. It marked an attack on the MOVE house in West Philadelphiaâs Powelton Village, when hundreds of cops fired thousands of shots into the structure where men, women and babies huddled in the basement. Gunfire was joined by water cannons, deluging the MOVE people, who fought to avoid drowning in that dark place. Now 73 Delbert remains as committed as ever he was to the causes for equal rights and justice.

Rabbi David Mivasair makes the case for Sanders
March 6, 2020, 7:25 p.m.
Something important is going on in American politics. The Bernie Sanders campaign is in its second incarnation. First in 2016 and now in 2020, he is speaking directly about working-class issues and socialist solutions. And people are responding.
Bernie is not taking corporate money. The old liberal run-a-round is bankrupt. Their old canard, "I feel your pain," isn't doing it anymore. The people need a health-care system that serves everyone. And they won't be told 'no.' Democrats Abroad is urging everyone to vote. Biden versus Sanders is a clear choice, and it is fair to ask: which side are you on?

Commentary on Response to Coronavirus
March 6, 2020, 5:09 p.m.
A special commentary on the response to the Coronavirus, taken from two episodes of CIUT Friday Morning.
Part 1 (February 21) - 4 Minutes:
Phil Taylor and Phil Conlon congratulate the World Health Organization's recognition of China's robust response to the Coronavirus crisis. U.S. media outlets have gone over the top in using the virus as an excuse to smear China, yet China has taken exemplary and energetic measures.
According to Taylor, the way U.S. media reports on the issue is "an attempt to reassert Western hegemony and authority."
Part 2 (February 28) - 4 Minutes:
Phil Taylor and Lynn Slotkin talk about how irrational behaviour here in response to the Coronavirus has caused suffering among some groups in Toronto. The potential pandemic threatens us all. Humanity needs to work together in a concerted manner, utilizing science to win the battle against the virus.
Phil plays an audio clip of a Canadian epidemiologist, who made helpful comments about the disaster response. We can learn from China's response, and implement the findings here. The operative phrase here is "mutual respect." Calm down, look at the science, and take care of yourselves. Go and support your restaurants in Chinatown.
