Extreme Heat #2: How It Kills
July 14, 2019, 4:12 p.m.
Deadly heat in India, unheard-of heat in France and Alaska. The Arctic is thawing out. Other places, from the U.S. Southwest to the Middle East, were merely unbearably hot. People have died and many more will be killed by heat in the future. But how does heat kill, and who? I have three experts to explain what we all need to know, in the second of my series on "Extreme Heat".

We explore the role of agriculture, the global south, resource extraction, and paths to a sustainable and just future in light of the reshaping of the political battlefield through the Green New Deal proposals.

Saudi Arabia - Armaments & Conflict in Yemen & the Middle East
July 13, 2019, 8:18 a.m.
Saudi Arabia and Jared Kushner: Armaments and Conflict in the Middle East
with
Mohamad Bazzi, journalism professor at New York University, a former Middle East bureau chief at Newsday and a former Council on Foreign Relations fellow. He is currently writing a book on the proxy wars between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Mohamad Bazzi, recently wrote for The Nation that Trumps public statements on Saudi killing in Yemen reflect "a narrative that has been gaining traction for years among U.S. officials and in sectors of the Western media: that the Saudis and their allies in the Yemen war, especially the United Arab Emirates, are killing civilians and destroying infrastructure by mistake. But this is not true. The Saudi coalition has targeted civilians and the countrys infrastructure by design since it intervened in Yemens civil war in March 2015. Its not that the Saudis and their allies dont know how to use American-made weapons or need help in choosing targets -- theyre using them as intended. And American officials have known this for years."
Bazzi has written extensively on the war in Yemen and the Trump administration circumventing Congress on arms to Saudi Arabia while civilians are being targeted -and recently said: "the Trump administration stated it plans to circumvent Congress to sell billions in new weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. U.S. officials have known for years that the Saudi/UAE coalition deliberately targets civilians in Yemen with U.S. weapons."

Today we repeat for you a program recorded at Harvard Law School exclusively for This Week In Palestine. It is an exploration of international law as it relates to the US/Israel occupation of Palestine. Of course international law applies to all signatory countries, although the US and Israel, when they decide that the law should not apply to them, have no problem flouting it, about which you will soon hear. The speaker is Jamil Dakwar of the ACLU, introduced at a student sponsored event at the Harvard Law School. (Replay from 1-6-2019.)

US-UK and Saudi Arabia Trying to Control Sudan
July 10, 2019, 8:49 p.m.
After months of popular demonstrations, the army has removed President Bashir in Sudan. However, the new question is who will rule. But the people want civilian rule, and no part of Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen. Both the protest movement and the army have unpredictable divisions in their own camps.
Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 130 You Need to Calm Down
July 10, 2019, 8:21 p.m.
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 15 episodes, but there are threats of cancellation. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.
