Weâve got your old school, with the Allman Brothers and weâve got your new school, with a cut from Sheer Mag, and then a whole bunch in between with music from the Boom Boom Satellites, All Time Low, Barenaked Ladies, Jade Warrior and of course many more. Then later the Sonic Café helps you live a better life with another in our occasional series of Matthew Mcconaughey moments. Weâll also hear from comedian Dwayne Perkins with some interesting observations about You Tube and the state of todayâs big corporate radio. You donât like âem, but you know thereâs nothing you can do about it. Donald Drumpf Theatre Volume 172 Brother Drumpfs Travelling Salvation Show
April 30, 2020, 6:01 a.m.
An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 11 months of episodes. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

Pio Pico & Roberto Garza - Meet the Last Mexican Governor of California
April 28, 2020, 11:25 p.m.
In this program, we are going to go back into California history about 150 years, and visit with the last Mexican governor of California, Pio Pico. Pio Pico was born at the San Gabriel Mission in 1801, of Spanish, Italian, Indian and African ancestry. Both as a politician and as an entrepreneur, he espoused the views of many native-born Californarios over distant seats of government. As the last Mexican governor of California, he presided over the secularization of the missions, and turned over their vast land holdings to private hands. Although he fled California during the American takeover, Pio Pico returned to build the first major hotel in Los Angeles. Later, he served on the Los Angeles City Council. I met with Pio Pico in the person of Roberto Garza in February of 1998.
Pio Pico recommends âPio Pico, A Historical Narrative,â by Pio Pico. Roberto Graza recommends âPio Pico Miscellany,â by Martin Cole & âDecline of the Californios,â by Leonard Pitt.
Originally Broadcast: February 27, 1998

Trump and Biden promoting division and havoc
April 28, 2020, 8:29 p.m.
The World Health Organization is under attack by the United States because the US is losing its control over the world. Canada should not be associated with these attacks. We should instead be promoting mutual respect, peace, and cooperation between major states.

Marie Mutskui Mockett: American Harvest
April 28, 2020, 3:12 p.m.
Anyone who has gone to the grocery store during the COVID-19 health crisis must have wondered to themselves at some point why there was no toilet paper, milk or flour all of a sudden. Itâs an important reminder that most of us have very little idea how things go from being planted in the ground to being stocked on our shelves. On this weekâs Sea Change Radio, we speak with Marie Mutsuki Mockett, an author whose family owns a wheat farm in Nebraska. Her new book, âAmerican Harvest,â takes us inside the world of wheat harvesting. We get a glimpse into the lives of the farmers she met while researching her book, discuss how those in the industry are coping with the pandemic and take a closer look at some of the agricultural industry's practices.

David Quammen: Is the Coronavirus the Byproduct of Human Behavior?
April 28, 2020, 1:28 p.m.
In his seventh week of sheltering in place in Milano, Italy, the filmmaker Olmo Parenti called the science writer and explorer David Quammen. He was sheltering in his home in Bozeman, Montana. Olmo had read Quammenâs 2012 book: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic; and asked Quammen how he was able to predict 8 years ago the rise of the Coronavirus pandemic. Olmo Parenti is a member of âA THING BYâ a collective of young filmmakers based in Milan.
David Quammen has won many awards for his books and magazine articles, including from the National Association of Science Writers. His work with National Geographic is best known, and has taken him on many difficult treks through the wild, such as chronicling J. Michael Fayâs 2,000 mile survey hike through the forests of Central Africa, The Megatransect.
In the course of his travels and studies David Quammen has come in contact with emerging diseases â such as Ebola, SARS, bird flu, and AIDS â and with the wildlife they emerge from. Spillover, the rite of his book, is a scientific term, it is the moment when such a virus passes from wild animals into people.
