Gospel icon Kizito Mihigo dies in Rwandan prison

Feb. 27, 2020, 11:36 a.m.
Kizito was a devout Christian and world-recognized composer/singer. He ran afoul of the Rwandan leadership when he composed and performed a song calling for true reconciliation, recognizing the suffering of all the country's ethnic groups. He was imprisoned, and authorities tried to force him to accuse others. Recently, he wished to leave the country. He was taken again into custody, where he died a "suicide," say the police (without troubling with an autopsy or investigation). There is widespread anger, and observers note that the population is shedding its fear.

Sonic Cafe #176/Twilight Zone Classic: Living Doll

Feb. 27, 2020, 7:56 a.m.
Sonic Café, hey welcome, thanks for dropping by the café. I’m Scott Clark and this is episode 176. This time the Sonic Café presents another Twilight Zone Classic, Living Doll which aired originally in November 1963. One of the more famous Twilight Zone episodes, it’s seen parodies including the Simpson’s and Toy Story 4. It’s the story of the day Talky Tina joined the dysfunctional Streator family, mother Annabelle, her daughter Christie and stepfather Eric… apparently Eric is infertile and bitter, he directs his hostility toward his whole family. Well, since this is the Twilight Zone, we quickly discover that Talky Tina is not only aware, buy also evil… and she’s not having any of Daddy’s BS. So ahhh yeah. We’ve wrapped our story in a music mix including Devo, Florence & The Machine, Locust, a quirky instrumental from Frank Zappa and more. Plus the Sonic Café brings you an exclusive interview with the late, great, voice actress June Foray. June shares how she came to be the voice of Talky Tina. And finally, listen closely to the soundtrack of this Twilight Zone classic and you’ll hear it’s mostly bass clarinet… which we feel once again proves our theory that our world today would be much better off if it included more bass clarinet. So ahh join us as we present Living Doll in another Twilight Zone classic from that little café overlooking the awesome, blue Pacific… we’re the Sonic Café.

Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another 11 months of episodes. Anyone who would like to work on a production, or have their work air in this timeslot, should contact info@wgxc.org.

Feb. 25, 2020, 2:09 p.m.
What can all the money in the world buy you? Thanks to the Beatles, we already know it’s not love, but could it perhaps buy you the most powerful office in the world? We may have an answer to this question as early as Super Tuesday, as one of the wealthiest humans on the planet attempts to buy the US presidency. This week on Sea Change Radio, we talk to author Steve Almond about the state of the Democratic primary. He offers his perspective on what we should be learning from Mike Bloomberg’s political ads that presently blanket our nation’s air waves, how the age of Trump changes the way that people view the field of presidential hopefuls, and what Democrats need to do if the nominee ends up being someone other than their favorite.

Syria's military campaign against Idlib terrorists should be praised

Feb. 25, 2020, 1:08 p.m.
Phil interviews Stephen Gowans about his recent article, which is entitled "We should applaud the Syrian military’s actions in Idlib, not deplore them." Gowans turns on its ear the US / UN and MSM critique of the Syrian campaign to liberate the province of Idlib, which Brett McGurk has described as "the largest safe haven for Al Qaeda in the world." Rather than being critical of the Syrian government for dislodging Al Qaeda terrorists from its own territory, especially as they were maintaining an oppressive occupation on behalf of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the USA, Gowans argues the world should laud Syria for protecting its own citizens and borders from foreign aggression, and driving out internationally-condemned terrorist organizations. This military campaign by Syria would not have been necessary if Turkey had lived up to its comittments in the Sochi Agreement to remove terrorists from the Idlib DeEscalation Zone. In addition, Phil notes that the Syrian Arab Army has a quite different modus operandi in fighting the terrorists than does the USA. The US approach to liberating Raqqa, for instance, involved destroying 85% of the city and killing thousands of Syrian citizens in a country in which the USA didn't even have permission to operate. The SAA, on the other hand, selectively tries to target terrorists and their assets, and open protected corridors for civilians to escape the fighting. These corridors and the civilians who use them are routinely fired upon by the terrorists. According to Gowans, the SAA is undertaking the necessary task which benefits the whole world.

And no captain of industry or civic leader would risk damaging his career or stock portfolio to save the species. This week, McPherson focuses on how serious the situation already is--and how mired in denial are all the leaders and institutions of the "civilization" that caused the calamity Next week: What to do?
