Rwandan Genocide Revisited: Impunity for War Criminals that Serve Western Interests
April 12, 2019, 11:19 a.m.
On a week corresponding with the 25th anniversary of the start of the Rwandan genocide, the Global Research News Hour shines a light on research pointing to the under-examined crimes committed by the Tutsi-dominated Rwandan Patriotic Front before, during and after the infamous 100 day killing spree that claimed hundreds of thousands of African lives. Our guests include radio host and former International Criminal Tribunal on Rwanda investigator Phil Taylor, and the author of a recent book on the genocide detailing the RPF's involvement and complicity in mass murder: Judi Rever.

Sonic Cafe #132/Twilight Zone Classic: Time Enough at Last
April 11, 2019, 11:23 a.m.
Sonic Café. Iâm Scott Clark, and this is episode 132. Time. The days, months and years slip by so quickly. We spend our irreplaceable time attending to everything, but what matters most. So what would happen, if everything were turned upside down and we finally had time to ourselves? What would that be like? This time the Sonic Café brings you Time Enough at Last, a Twilight Zone Classic that originally aired in 1959. Starring the late Burgess Meredith, as the mild mannered bank teller Henry Bemis, a guy who just wants to be left alone to read. Read anything, from soup labels, to the classics. But everyone in his life conspires against him. That is, until a nasty nuclear firestorm came along and wiped out everything and everyone accept Henry and a library packed with books. At last with all distractions are gone, Henry has time enough at last. But then, in a cruel twist of fate, itâs taken from him in an instant, when his reading glasses are smashed beyond repair, leaving Henry with the time, but no longer the means to indulge his passion. To compliment this time warn tale, the Sonic Café presents a mix of artists who each have their own take on time. Listen for Sugar Blue, Crosby, Stills, Nash, the Anderson Ponty Band, Led Zeppelin and many more. All this time, on another Twilight Zone Classic, from that little café on the coast, where we always have enough time for what matters, weâre the Sonic Café.
Eyewitness Venezuela - Report Back Tour
April 11, 2019, 9:29 a.m.
Gloria La Riva, First Vice President of the Pacific Media Workers Guild, Local 39521, just back from Venezuela, speaks about what she saw and the people she spoke with during her one month trip.
There to see first hand what was happening she counters the narriative that the U.S. Government and corporate media are using to destabilize the elected Venezuelan government in their campaign to destroy Venezuelan socialism, the humane alternative to the brutality of capitalism, and to regain for private investors and corporations unrestricted access to the mineral wealth of the country.
Gloria was witness to Venezuelans defending their sovereignty at the border when the U.S. weaponized "humanitarian aid" in a violent stunt to split the military about which she comments.
She showed several short interviews; a few snippets of the audio are included though the interview at a public out door gym is complete. It elicits a laugh from the audience as the person flexes his muscle for the camera while declaring, though not a follower of Maduro, as a patriot he is ready to defend his country from foreign invaders.
Contrary to the propaganda people are not starving. There are problems she notes but ending the U.S. instituted financial blockade, long term interference in its trade relations and sabotage of the food distribution and electrical system would allow those problems to be resolved internally.
Gloria La Riva refers to several articles that can be found at
the answercoalition.org web site which has up to date reporting from Venezuela.

Jeff Blankfort on Iran, Deir Yassin, Israel, NATO, Democrats
April 10, 2019, 2:21 p.m.
In an extended program, due to a missing guest, I covered a range of subjects, beginning with Trumpâs responding favorably to Netanyahuâs wishes over the Pentagon and CIAâs opposition by designating Iranâs Revolutionary Guards as a âterroristâ organization, the latter being concerned about the likely endangerment of US troops in Iraq and Syria from Shia groups linked to the IRGC. I NPR for failing to report on the internal opposition to Trumpâs action despite it having been on the front page of the NY Times.
I will comment later that this is just the latest effort by Trump in fulfilling Netanyahuâs wish list and makes it more than likely that the Israeli PM will take advantage of Trumpâs presence in the White House to follow through on his election eve promise and begin annexing Jewish settlements in the West Bank, confident that the US will veto any Security Council resolution that calls for Israelâs censuring.
I note that Netanyahu selected the 71st anniversary of the massacre of the Palestinian village of Deir Yassin by Jewish terrorists and that the two terrorist gang leaders, Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir would later become Israeli prime ministers.
I go from there to Las Vegas where Republican Jewish mega billionaire and the Republican and Trumpâs major funder is hosting another of his projects, the Republican Jewish Coalition where he meets with Trump who draws cheers from the crowed when speaking of Netanyahu as âtheir prime minister.â He the proudly touts all the things he has done for Israel and Americaâs Jews.
I then refer to a Jewish Telegraphic Agency article that describes the fault lines between Republicans and Democrats over Israel and the extent of differences among the Democrat campaign field, from Beto OâRourke, who calls Netanyahu a racist, to Amy Globuchar who is in AIPACâs pocket.
I go from her statement that she supports a âtwo state solutionâ to revea l the fact that when two states might actually have been viable, in the late 80s, it was universally opposed by the Democrats and illustrate that by describing what occurred when a measure was placed on the San Francisco ballot in 1988 that offered support for two states and the ugly, cynical response by its opponents, with money from across the country, to defeat it.
Should Netanyahu annex the settlements and the odds are that he will, Trump will surely support it and the illusion of two states will finally be put to rest, leaving the Democrats politically naked, something that Trump and the Republicans would surely enjoy.
I go from there to an article by Norman Solomon criticizing Barbara Leeâs crucial vote in the House Foreign Relations Committee that allowed a vote on Trumpâs bloated military budget to go the floor for a vote. He included Leeâs incomprehensible response.
I then mention that on my previous program I had interviewed Dr. Lee Artz about the behind the scenes role the US has been playing to destroy the Venezuelan economy and bring down its government, none of which is ever mentioned by NPR whose Ari Shapiro went to the border with Colombia to interview Venezuelans who had fled the country, were in dire conditions, setting up, what I suggested was the demand for âhumanitarian interventionâ by the US. (more later).

The Authoritarian Absurdity of the U.S. Constitution ONE of TWO
April 9, 2019, 5:41 p.m.
Paul Street is an independent radical-democratic policy researcher, teacher, journalist, historian, and author of seven books. In this talk, that he gave at the Open University of the Left in Chicago in March 2019, he offered arguments and proof that the US constitution is not the sacred document protecting the "Peoples Rightsâ, but on the contrary is authoritarian and anti-democratic by design.
For the 18th Century slaveholders and merchants popular sovereignty was the ultimate nightmare and they embedded safety mechanisms into the constitution that remain in force today via the Senate, Supreme Court and Electoral College. Street details how U.S. politics and policy are badly distorted by the nation's exceptionally durable charter and how we might finally stop playing "Simon Says" with militant anti-democrats like Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay.
Paul Street has authored seven books to date, among them: Racial Oppression in the Global Metropolis: a Living Black Chicago History; The Empireâs New Clothes: Barack Obama in the Real World of Power; Crashing the Tea Party: Mass Media and the Campaign to Remake American Politics; and They Rule: The 1% v. Democracyâ¦
Paul Streetâs essays and commentaries have appeared in a wide variety of media such as CounterPunch, Truthdig, Black Agenda Report, the Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, and CNN to name only a few.
Georgina Gustin on the Farm Bureau
April 9, 2019, 5:21 p.m.
You may or may not have heard of the Farm Bureau but it is one of the most powerful lobbying organizations in this country, representing over six million members. And what does the Farm Bureau advocate for? More than you might think. As this weekâs guest on Sea Change Radio, Inside Climate News reporter Georgina Gustin, explains, the Farm Bureau has been pushing conservative policies for over four decades now. Gustin gives us a better understanding of what the Farm Bureau does, whom it represents, and the environmental threat that it poses. Then, we revisit our discussion with Zero Mass Water CEO Cody Friesen who explains his companyâs unique technology that turns humidity in the air into drinking water, using solar energy.

John Wilkes Booth, a Southern sympathizer and a war profiteer, signs on to abduct Lincoln for Southern, Northern and British business interests, not to revenge the imminent demise of the Confederate States of America.
But principals in the wheeling and dealing are not content with Boothâs dramatic posturings and lack of results. They want Captain James William Boyd, a Confederate spy and capable guerilla, to take over the abduction plan.
Did the Money Men unwittingly sign Lincolnâs death warrant? Or did a higher political power decide Lincoln had to be deposed, not for just a âfortnightâ but permanently?
The clock begins ticking louder and faster as the Ides of April near an unforgettable end.
Reverend Mariama White Hammond's reportback ...
April 9, 2019, 2:47 p.m.
Today we finish up our presentation of the reportback by Nancy and Hubert Murray and the Reverend Mariama White Hammond. Last week we featured Nancy and Hubert Murray's presentations. As promised, this week we feature White Hammond's presentation, followed by the very rich question and answer discussion. This was a particularly inciteful reportback because of the historical perspective offered by this particular delegation.
Rev. White-Hammond is an advocate for ecological and social justice, youth engagement, and Spirit-filled organizing. As former director of Project HIP-HOP ("Highways Into the Past - History, Organizing and Power"), she used the arts as a tool to raise awareness for social issues from juvenile incarceration to funding for public transportation. She is very committed to engaging the faith community, and particularly the Black church on climate change and ecological justice issues. She presently serves as the pastor at the New Roots AME Church in Dorchester, MA.
Before we end, here is an update on the continuing assault by the Israeli lobby on campus groups who stand in support of Palestinian liberation and in particular the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign (BDS). Recently there have been provocations on 2 campuses, Swarthmore on the East coast, and Pitzer in the west.
The outside pressure on groups at Swarthmore has been so intense that it fostered a letter of support, which we read, from prominent educators and activists across the country. At Pitzer, a Mondoweiss article, which we read, begins with this summary: "Pitzer Collegeâs governing council took an historic vote to suspend a program of study at the University of Haifa because of Israelâs discriminatory policies. And just three hours later that resolution was vetoed, emphatically, by the college president."
Stay tuned!
