Bisbee Arizona's Ethnic Cleansing of 1,300 Immigrant Mineworkers!

Nov. 2, 2018, 1:03 p.m.
Which Side Are You On: The Story of Bisbee Arizona's Ethnic Cleansing of 1,300 Immigrant Mineworkers! with Katherine Benton-Cohen, Professor of History, Institute for the Study of International Migration, Georgetown University The border town of Bisbee, Arizona is known for a few things. First, theres that massive copper mine that was turned into a tourist attraction back in the seventies. Then, theres that can-do spirit that wont let said town " or mine " die, no matter how much times change. Oh, and theres also the hundred-year-old ethnic cleansing that everyone is eager to forget, including those concerned that the atrocity might reflect badly on that damn mine, which kickstarted the event a century ago. We tell the story of Bisbees ignoble, anti-immigrant past to juxtapose it as an admonition against the advent of our anti-immigrant, anti-worker behavior today. which is recounted in Robert Greene's new film "Bisbe '17" We talk with Katherine Benton-Cohen about the 1917 labor strike against Phelps Dodge, a copper mining company based in Bisbee, Arizona, a town seven miles from the Mexican border. The labor action was cut short when 2,000 strikebreakers and hastily deputized citizens rounded up 1,300 protesters, many of them members of the radical, Industrial Workers of the World, aka The Wobblies. In this process two strikers were killed. The strikers were taken across state lines by train and dumped in the New Mexico desert with a warning to never return. The event tore apart families and created divisions in Bisbee and the surrounding county that linger to this day. One of the most harrowing anecdotes recounted here finds a sheriff's deputy arresting his own brother, a striking union member, at gunpoint in his own home.

Murder of John Hernanez

Nov. 2, 2018, 9:35 a.m.
There are multiple sustained objections by the prosecution during the defense's closing arguments. At one point, the defence attorney, Scot Courtney, is not able to play his video for the jury. Thompson's wife, Chauna, is a former Harris County Sheriff's deputy. She also faces murder charges. A jury can find Thompson guilty or not guilty of manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide. If they jury does not make a decision today they will be sequestered and could continue deliberations through the weekend.

Breaking the Blue Wave: Rigged US Elections and the new NAFTA

Nov. 2, 2018, 9:28 a.m.
On this week's Global Research News Hour radio program we investigate factors influencing the outcome of the US Mid-term elections. We first hear from lawyer, author, and editor of the online Columbia Free Press Bob Fitrakis about past and ongoing mechanisms which allow partisan operators to clandestinely manipulate the vote. We next interview broadcaster, writer and political economist Dr. Jack Rasmus about his take on the recently renegotiated NAFTA agreement, now called the USMCA, about what is actually in that agreement, and the role it might play in the November 6 election outcome.

The Anti-Federalists - Part Seventeen

Nov. 2, 2018, 8:51 a.m.
In Letter No. 17, Centinel expands upon his previous essay. He takes direct aim at the Founders scamming their fellow Americans for millions of dollars. Well-to-do elites, acting as political saviors, are speculating using public monies. Centinel displays amazing courage in this missive. He names names and levels charges. Does Centinel make another tangential reference to Alexander Hamilton, who had a powerful influence over George Washington? The Federalists are stealing supplies and property and are using their plunder to further their hold on power. Centinel calls out Federalist Francis Hopkinson as a shill for denigrating the Irish-born Anti-Federalist writer and educator, Benjamin Workman, aka Philadelphiensis. Centinel implies that Hopkinson, "The Little Fiddler," has debased himself by accepting bribes. It's an unpopular claim in today's myth-loving, hero-worshiping America: The Founders were erudite grifters who pulled every trick out of the bag to swindle their fellow citizens out of their liberties and property. Sadly, ironically, Americans have been propagandized into believing they can’t be propagandized.

Jafar Farah and Nabila Espanioly comment on Israel's outrageous new "nation-state" law

Nov. 2, 2018, 7:03 a.m.
Israel has passed a controversial new “nation-state law” that’s sparking both celebration and fierce debate over the very nature of Israel itself. The law does three big things: 1. It states that “the right to exercise national self-determination” in Israel is “unique to the Jewish people.” 2. It establishes Hebrew as Israel’s official language, and downgrades Arabic — a language widely spoken by Arab Israelis — to a “special status.” 3. It establishes Jewish settlement as a "national value” and mandates that the state “will labor to encourage and promote its establishment and development.” To the 20% of the Israeli population who are Palestinian, it further solidifies that Israel is truly an apartheid state. Today we feature a Palestinian pushback. Jafar Farah, director of the Massawa Center, which monitors and promotes Arabic rights in Israel, and clinical psychologist Nabila Espanioly, a feminist activist, who founded the Al-Tafula Women’s Center in Nazareth, addressed the new apartheid law at the Harvard law school. We were there to record it. Here is their response to a law that negates the very existence of the Palestinian people.

Hope springs ever eternal — even if rarely here in the Thunderbolt. Listen with extreme caution.

Sonic Cafe #110/Twilight Zone Classic: Judgement Night

Nov. 1, 2018, 11:40 a.m.
Sonic Café. Hey welcome, I’m Scott Clark and this is episode one hundred and ten. This time the Sonic Cafe presents another Twilight Zone Classic. We’ll feature Judgment Night, which aired originally in 1959. We like it because it explores what happens when the hunter becomes the hunted. Set in 1942, it features ruthless U-Boat captain Carl Lanser. A guy who’s perfectly OK with sending a defenseless British freighter to the bottom of the frigid north Atlantic, without the slightest thought about the crew or passengers. But you know Karma can be hell, and since we’re in the Twilight Zone, Captain Lanser soon finds himself on the deck of that same freighter… but this time the U-Boat is hunting him. All this maritime action is wrapped in an eclectic music mix pulled from over thirty years Listen for Pete Townsend, The Tubes, Kings Of Leon, ZZ Top and many more. So stow your bags, grab a deck chair and get ready for cast off as we dive into another Twilight Zone Classic, here at the little café on the coast that’s always ready to set sail… we’re the Sonic Café.

Out of the Woods - Show #448 - 11-10-18

Nov. 1, 2018, 7:16 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Syria - The New Terra Nullius

Oct. 31, 2018, 7:39 p.m.
Syria has become a canvas upon which outsiders can project their fantasies. There has been a failure to adopt a truly 'decolonial' view that respects Syria's sovereignty and self-determination. If there is no resistance to "Team America's" neo-liberal world that reshapes borders as if they are clay, then there will be more Syrias and more refugee crises.
