Deep Organizing and Regenerative Communities

Aug. 4, 2018, 9:31 p.m.
Jeff Biggers is introduced by Vince Emanuele who along with Sergio Kochergin started P.A.R.C. - a place where community and the commons can be reclaimed. Its a concept and a human need the philosopher Ivan Illiach addressed in his many works. The reading is mix of performance and humor, and several friends contribute the voices of historical persons and even an odious Federal document; one eventually withdrawn due to the resistance of journalists and out spoken women who carried the fight from behind bars. Biggers notes the confusion today in the fact that the much celebrated musical "Hamilton", celebrates a monarchist and and person who despised common people.

Israel Seizes Freedom Flotilla Boat

Aug. 4, 2018, 6:46 p.m.
The first boat to be seized in this year's Gaza Freedom Flotilla was Al Awda (The Return), challenging the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza. Crew member Larry Commodore, a native leader in Canada, was injured in the violent arrest of the boat. Phil interviews Karen DeVito, wife of the captain of the Freedom. She says, "we sailed for freedom for the people of Gaza, for freedom for people everywhere." DeVito, an experienced activist and writer, discusses with Phil her difficulty in publishing a book that included a chapter about the Nakba. She also comments on Israeli Yonatan Shapira, former captain and helicopter pilot in the Israeli army, and the "Boycott From Within."

Jeff Biggers - Reclaiming an American Tradition

Aug. 4, 2018, 12:14 p.m.
Part of a book reading at P.A.R.C. (Politics - Art - Roots - Culture) from his latest book Resistance: Reclaiming an American Tradition. Several community activists voice the words from historical actors Biggers has drawn from during the reading. Jeff Biggers has been organizing against the tyranny of coal corporations in southern Illinois for many years. He was in northern Indiana to support a grass roots campaign to hold to account corporations that have poisoned the communities they have operated in. Capital has held workers hostage, as it relocated to exploit cheaper labor or made the threat, always abandoning the toxic landscape of operations to the workers and communities, they extracted their wealth from, to deal with. Now working class and retirees are seeing themselves threatened with displacement by gentrification as land values are being driven up through predatory investment due to proximity to Lake Michigan. It is usually the business boosters, who make up local government, that side with the "money" interests. Organizing the people to resist is what Biggers helps with by reminding them of Tom Pains inspirational words, words that motivated the yeoman farmers of his day to fight British tyranny, because today it is the tyranny of Capital that threatens their security with displacement.

#544 -- Tariq Ali on Palestine (R)

Aug. 4, 2018, 10:50 a.m.
A fine talk on the past, present, and possible future of Palestine and its people, now enduring a blockade and a half-century-long military occupation by Israel. Much of Ali's criticism, though, is directed not against Israel but against the corruption of Palestine's "leaders"--the PLO and the Palestinian Authority. These "leaders," conniving with Israel, have enriched themselves while the mass of Palestinians suffer. They have made a "two-state solution" now impossible. (Cont. under "Credits")

ICE Training Officers in Military-Grade Weapons, Chemical Agents

Aug. 3, 2018, 12:25 p.m.
ICE Training Officers in Military-Grade Weapons, Chemical Agents with Ken Klippenstein, renowned American national security reporter Sounds like they are getting ready for a war, a retired Immigration, Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency agent, Rob Uribe lvarez, told national security reporter Ken Klippenstein, on why ICE officers are being trained to use weapons that have been heretofore exclusively the province of the U.S. military. This seems to fit hand-in-glove with reports that ICE had retained a former CIA interrogator to train agents in handling terrorist suspects. Klippenstein in a Building Bridges exclusive reports on how ICE is quietly training its deportation officers in the use of weapons more familiar to the U.S. military than to domestic law enforcement, federal records show. The agency's Enforcement and Removal Officers are being trained in the use of M4 assault rifles, chemical agents, stun grenades, and flash bangs, according to federal procurement records. The M4 assault rifle is used extensively by the armed forces and has been the primary service weapon for the U.S. Marine Corps.

Bush to Donald Trump. Later in the program, we hear a repeat broadcast of an interview with Mark Robinowitz from a January 2018 conversation, in which our guest details the Deep State influences, including the neocons, enabling and affecting the Trump presidency.

Dealing With Racist Dicks

Aug. 3, 2018, 6:24 a.m.
Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux just finished their Australian tour. They met with resistance everywhere they went, Lauren was even stopped by police when she tried to vilify iMuslims in Sydney's Lakemba. Brisbane's turn at showing these Canadians racists are not welcome was July 29 and an event was called for 7pm. The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre was the venue. A great place for an exhibition of the racism in our town and the resistance against it. About 60 people turned up on 'our' side. Anarchists, Socialists, refugee activists and others. Protesters gathered at the main and back entrance. I did an interview with Tom Tanuki last week about his group and tactic Yelling At Racist Dogs. There was lots of yelling on Sunday at lots of racists, but not a lot of other more direct action. A seasoned iBrisbane activist who couldn't attend says it is disappointing the group stood at the taxi rank and didn't even try to take the stairs of the centre which is the tradition. This may have an influence on what the police expect of resistance groups in the future. Linda is joined by local activist and all round genius Gerald Keaney for this sedition and they discuss the evening. Hard hitting punk antifascist songs break up our discussion.

TB 180803 Idiots, Imbeciles, & Morons

Aug. 2, 2018, 8:24 p.m.
For this week’s radio show we are proud to announce that the Thunderbolt is once again on the air in Olympia! (Albeit on an unlicensed station — and it only plays if someone gets around to playing it…). Next, Ken Nordine introduces the Thunderbolt crew before we differentiate the biggest difference between black people and white people. We expose evil plots to turn us all into Zuckers, we sing an ode to the mothers of our world, and we reveal a face of Muammar Qaddafi that is probably very unfamiliar to you. For the feature piece we expose government sterilization programs that were very popular back in the day. Cringeworthy anecdotes of pusillanimous perfidy mixed with lame metaphors. Listen at your own risk.
