The Physical Embodiment of White Supremacist Systems / What We Can Learn about Criminal Justice from Luigi Mangione
Dec. 23, 2024, 9:58 p.m.
The first half of today’s show sees us discussing Gov. Mike Parson of Missouri and his decision-making discrepancies when it comes to a case of pardoning a White officer convicted of wrongfully killing a Black man, and failing to pardon a Black inmate on death row with considerable doubt cast on his case. We connect the idea of White supremacist institutions to this governor to better illustrate the concept for those who deny that White supremacy exists.
The second half of the show we discuss Luigi Mangione and how the criminal justice system can often expend a ‘benefit-of-the-doubt’ to felonious White actors, how that breaks down when class is introduced into the equation, and how infrequently such grace is extended to Black and Brown individuals.
Our Way Black History Fact discusses Universal Oil, Gas, and Mining—the country’s first Black-owned oil company.
George Washington Pt. I
Dec. 23, 2024, 8:39 p.m.
What do you get when you mix a land-surveying farm kid, a reluctant revolutionary, and a no-nonsense general with a knack for leading a country itching to implode? George Washington, of course! In this episode of The Buck Starts Here, Kyle and Eric unravel the myth and the man behind the powdered wig. From his scrappy beginnings on a small farm to becoming the glue that held a fledgling nation together, Washington’s story is packed with grit, genius, and just the right amount of drama to keep you hooked.
But Washington’s story isn’t all battles and glory. The hosts examine his economic struggles as a farmer, his decision to leave the military for civilian life, and the mounting discontent with Britain that sowed the seeds of revolution. They also reveal the real challenges he faced as a leader with no party backing, tasked with holding together a young nation on the brink of collapse.
Kyle and Eric mix history with sharp insights and a dash of irreverence to unpack how Washington’s leadership style—marked by humility and a focus on service—shaped the presidency and set traditions still in place today.

Laura Fogg— "Travelling Blind"
Dec. 20, 2024, 5:28 a.m.
The ways different creatures, especially people use their senses has for a long time attracted my curiosity. I have wondered about the dreams of blind people or deaf people. From time to time I’d see an attentive woman walk past my office with a young person who carried a white cane with a red tip. Laura Fogg is this woman, the author of “Travelling Blind: Life Lessons From Unlikely Teachers,” and our guest here in the studios of Radio Curious. Laura Fogg has worked as an Orientation and Mobility Instructor for the blind in Mendocino County since 1971. In doing so, she has pioneered the use of the white cane with blind students who are very young or who have multiple impairments, traveling from student to student through the rather special backroads between their homes. Laura Fogg visited Radio Curious on December 1st, 2008 and talked about some of the life lessons she has learned.
The book Laura Fogg recommends is “My Year Of Meats” by Ruth Ozeki
