Jeff Blankfort: News/Op:How US Elected Yeltsin; US, KSA armed Al Qaeda

July 25, 2018, 9:36 p.m.
After brief comments over divisions on the left over Nicaragua, I knock the mainstream media and NPR for its nonstop attacks on Russia and suggest that congressional gerrymandering, purging black and brown voters from the voting rolls and making it harder for the poor and elderly to vote have done more to damage our political process than the Russians could possibly imagine. I recall and report on Time Magazine’s cover story of July 1996, featuring Boris Yeltsin with a US flag in his lapel, describing how four US Republican political operatives with a connection to the Clinton White House turned around Yeltsin’s failing bid for re-election into a win, using US political tactics which ended up putting the natural resources of Russia into the hands of handful or Russian Jews who became billionaire oligarchs. I then cite an article by Robert Fisk about his discovering in the ruins of Eastern Aleppo, evidence that Al Nusra and the other jihadists that were fighting the government had been armed by the Saudis with 120mm mortars purchased from Bosnia and by Hughes Aircraft from California. I finish with describing Israel’s new racist nationality law and how Netanyahu is telling Putin to get Iran’s arms and missiles out of Syria, to remove its air defenses and close the borders between Syria and Lebanon and Syria and Iraq. Seriously.

Finally, the letter states a Third World War will occur between the 'political Zionists' and the 'leaders of the Islamic world'. 'The war must be conducted in such a way that Islam [the Muslim Arabic World] and political Zionism [the State of Israel] mutually destroy each other. 'Meanwhile the other nations, once more divided on this issue will be constrained to fight to the point of complete physical, moral, spiritual and economical exhaustion.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3480720/Letter-written-Confederate-officer-150-years-ago-predicted-two-World-Wars-said-Islamic-leaders-West-just-hoax.html

He is also doing interviews and reports and sent me this interview with an Iranian mother, who with her family is trying to reach Europe. As part of a small group the family crossed into Croatia, but were intercepted by police after a farmer reported them. This interview is distressing and listener discretion is advised. The mother’s voice has been altered for her safety.

What will he make of the UK? and we look at Transparify’s 2018 think tank funding transparency rankings and talk about how opacity is the name of the game for many of the ‘free market’ lobby groups pushing for Brexit, deregulation, privatisation and tax havenry, such as the Institute for Economic Affairs.

Rebecca Vallas on Poverty Denialism

July 24, 2018, 4:35 p.m.
“Just remember that what you’re seeing and what you’re reading is not happening,” said the President of the United States this week to a group of veterans. It was a statement eerily reminiscent of the quote from George Orwell’s 1984, “The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears.” It was also yet another example of gaslighting, a term derived from the 1938 Patrick Hamilton play “Gas Light” that’s used to describe efforts to manipulate someone’s perception of reality. It’s, of course, a term with which more and more of us are becoming familiar as of late since we seem to be getting a consistently unhealthy dose of gaslighting under the current Administration. Recently, the White House Council of Economic Advisers published a report that essentially declared poverty in this country a thing of the past. This week on Sea Change Radio, we discuss the ins and outs of this latest gaslighting special with Rebecca Vallas, the vice president for the Poverty to Prosperity Program at the Center for American Progress. Vallas explains what’s at the root of the report, who it really targets and why it should be concerning to all of us.

Kate Raworth: Why it's time for a new version of human prosperity

July 24, 2018, 3:29 p.m.
Kate Raworth came to international attention in 2017 with the publication of her most recent book: Doughnut Economics: Seven Ways to Think like a 21st-Century Economist. She critiques the Gross Domestic Product system of accounting - including the so-called Green or sustainable growth models. In Kate Raworth' doughnut model the goal is to raise the well being of humans trapped inside the doughnut hole, while placing limits on climate change and pollution that are near or have crossed the outer circle of the doughnut. Kate Raworth is teaching at Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute, and at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Over the last two decades she has worked as Senior Researcher at Oxfam, and as a co-author of the United Nation's Human Development Report. Kate Raworth has written extensively for media including The Guardian, The New Statesman, Newsweek, and Wired, and has done programs with BBC Radio 4, The World Service, ABC and NPR, as well as television with Thom Hartmann, Laura Flanders, CNN, Al-Jazeera, BBC, and CBC.

Which Way is Up? - The US Left in Ideological Crisis

July 24, 2018, 7:43 a.m.
This delayed broadcast from the @TheAngryindian and 4th World Radyo goes further in questioning the Russiagate Scandal and asks how Indigenous and Afro-American populations fit into the Trump Administration's painfully obvious programme to 'Make America Gammon Again' through the state-sponsored utilisation of racial-profiling against non-European citizens and residents within the United States; the indefinite detention of persons according to arbitrary legal and extralegal means and once brought into the system against their will(s) these people are subjected to physical and psychological including the reported use of psychotropic drugs and sedatives aimed and reducing resistance to what is happening to them and the social media influence of Russian-backed hacker-factories situated in Eastern Europe and the Russian Republic. @TheAngryindian also takes a hard look at some of the voices of the US Left angrily dismissing allegations of Russian-meddling as American Paranoia and asks why these 'experts', when appearing on alternative news media, seem to be more interested in fighting harder for Trump and Putin than they are for Black and Brown America. Is there a reasonable explanation for their questionable behaviour, especially following Trump's treasonous performance in Helsinki? And after the Trump Administration decided to support British neo-Nazi Tommy Robinson with diplomatic pressure, (after supporting neo-Nazis at home) why, in a logical world, would US Leftists choose to thrown their lot in with the US Republican Party which is directly connected to the violent far-right? Is this the 'new' American Left? And how will Progressives and authentic Democratic Socialists deal with this while working to build a functional political party in the United States under Democratic Fascism? EXTRAS: The usual mix of politically progressive PSAs; anti-commercial quirks; political sounds and archived news items; a brief corporate news clip with the Rev. William Barber, including illuminating commentary from independent broadcasters Benjamin Dixon, Joe Rogan and Mike Malloy. All this and much more on, 4WR. The official Internet radio broadcast of the Aboriginal Press News Service
