Canada Day in Toronto, Moving Day in Montreal, 1867 and All That

July 12, 2018, 9:11 p.m.
In 1867, British North America was reconfigured as a Confederation, being rather independent yet with loyalties to the Empire. The old issue of French Canada (Quebec) remained unresolved. The Globe and Mail lately argued that final, true, independence came with the repatriation of the Constitution to Canada from the UK in 1982. Perhaps, though, it served only to exacerbate problems. Repatriation requires Quebec's assent. And no political party in Quebec has agreed to do so. Until that happens, Canada Day will always require an asterisk.

(Rolling right along here now…) We discuss some political false flags, we garner the wisdom of the cosmos with The Wisdom of the Thunderbolt, we describe sine modern day bounty hunters — and for the finale we have an eye-opening expose on the conditions facing foster children in the United States. Many gigavolts of electrical zappage this week, Kids. Listeners should take common sense security precautions.

The Anti-Federalists - Part Five

July 12, 2018, 4 p.m.
Centinel, in Letter no. 5, reiterates some key assertions from his previous papers. Centinel stresses that America is too large and diverse for a central, overarching government. He a states that that a key supporter of the federal plan, in a rare moment of candor, admitted that the new government would need to be foisted upon the population; that the people would need to be bullied or tricked into accepting it. Centinel further argues that the Constitution will mold the several states into one whole that will subjugate the citizenry.

Sonic Cafe #95/American Sports Fanatics

July 12, 2018, 9:07 a.m.
Sonic Café. Welcome to episode 95. I’m your host Scott Clark. This time the Sonic Café takes a look at sports in America. Well, not sports so much, as sports fans, or should I say sports fanatics. Listen for observations on American sports and fans from the Late Shows Trevor Noah, and comedian John Caponera. Then later comedian Keith Ernst argues that professional athletes take it all to seriously because playing sports isn’t even really a job at all. So yeah… We’ll wrap all this sports talk in a music mix spanning 32 years, including tracks from The Tubes, King Crimson, Cake, Flunk and more. Plus great jazz from Joshua Redman, listen for Hide and Seek, from his Freedom in The Grove release. And finally, after all this sports talk, the Sonic Café will give you a taste of an actual sports broadcast. Listen as we check in on the World Table Tennis Championship to see how the Semi-Finals are shaping up. Whew, all that and of course more this hour as the Sonic Café presents sports in America, from that little café on the coast, where every seat is a skybox. We’re the Sonic Café.

Out of the Woods - Show #432 - 7-21-18

July 12, 2018, 5:09 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Joe Lauria:Cold War Democrats, NATO Target Russia

July 11, 2018, 12:23 p.m.
Consortium News' Joe Lauria was interviewed about an article he had written June 13, “Democrats Put Partisanship Before Prospects for Peace.” which referred to their criticism of his meeting with Km Jong-Un and, more recently, about his upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin. How the approach of this crop of Democrats—he names Pelosi and Schumer as examples—compares with an earlier generation, citing Senators Ted Kennedy and Mike Mansfield as examples, who welcomed the trip of Nixon to Peking to meet Mao Tse Tung in 1972 in the midst of the Cold War and the hot war in Vietnam. Unlike today's Democrats, with few exceptions, those in 1972 were able to separate their criticisms and loathing of Nixon from this gesture towards peace, accusing Trump, by having canceled the scheduled war games with So. Korean forces on the No. Korean border and describing them as “provocative,” as having “given away the store,” Lauria sees the present as the most partisan in memory with Democrats doing to Trump what Republicans did to Obama, oppose every measure he takes with what's good for the country ignored. The situation with Putin is far more serious with false accusations of Russian aggression which is non-existent and NATO troops stationed and doing exercises on Russia's border and about to expand as laying the groundwork for overthrowing Putin and installing another US puppet in the mold of Boris Yeltsin. Lauria is particularly concerned about War Secretary Jim Mattis's 30-30-30 plan which calls on NATO allies to assemble 30 land battalions, 30 air squadrons and 30 combat vessels capable of deploying in 30 days or less by the year 2020. This, Lauria points is not for defense against non existent Russian threats but, more likely, but preparation for Western intervention in Russia. Lauria decries Hillary Clinton for comparing Putin with Hitler after the annexation of Crimea and John Kerry having the nerve to say that invading another country's territory is unthinkable in this century, referring to Crimea, especially considering the US invasion of Iraq which he supported. Lauria points out that anyone in the media seen denying Russia's “aggression” and criticizing the overreaction to this illusion is viewed as a “Putin sympathizer,” in a new wave of McCarthyism, led by the liberal Democrats such as Rachel Maddow, who Lauria refers to as a “useful idior,” who is afraid that Trump will pull NATO troops away from Russia's borders. He points out that recently released documents validate Russia's claims that the first George Bush's Sec. off State, James Baker, had promised Mikhail Gorbachev that there would be no NATO troops stationed near the Russian border after Gorbachev gave his approval for the combining of East Germany with the US supported West, providing it did not become a NATO member]. Unfortunately, says, Lauria, Gorbachev, didn't get promise in writing. And much, much more.

Jeff Blankfort:News/Op:Ukraine Coup. Crimea; Ed Shultz

July 11, 2018, 12:18 p.m.
I begin with reporting how Democrats and liberal media, e.g., NY Times, attacking Trump for meeting with Kim Jong-Un and Putin prefer sabre rattling to peace compared with welcoming Nixon's meeting with Mao Tse-Tung in 1972 that my guest Consortium News Joe Lauria will speak about later in the program. I then refer back to the US backed Ukraine coup that has been excised by the media which chooses to begin crisis with Russia starting with annexation of Crimea. I then, in brief, review the history of Crimea going back to its capture in 1783 by Catherine the Great, its becoming a part of the Russian Federation in the USSR until 1954 when the Ukrainian Khrushchev made it part of Ukraine, then to 1991, with fall of the USSR, it became an autonomous republic within Ukraine and its parliament had every right to vote to rejoin the Russian Federation. After mentioning Russian accusations that the coup militants in Maidan Square were neo-Nazis, I refer to a story from Ha'aretz about 40 Israeli human rights advocates going to Israel's High Court to get Israel to stop selling weapons to Ukrainian neo-Nazis who wear swastikas and SS badges. I then report on another story, ignored by US media, about a new joint US-Israel task force, featuring John Bolton and an Israeli counterpart designed to put pressure on Iran but not (LOL) to topple the government. I finish up with a powerful and moving 4:29 min. interview with Ed Schultz, the former MSNBC news host about how the Clintonites and the head of MSNBC prevented him from covering Bernie Sanders, how he was censored there before being fired while at RT where he was working until he died, he was never told what to say. An indictment of the Democrats and the liberal media that should be widely shared.

Most people wouldn’t guess it, but concrete is the single most widely used material in the world. And both production and consumption are on the rise. We discuss Blue Planet’s latest projects, look at the industry as a whole, and examine some encouraging concrete recycling solutions.

Paul Grignon: Money as Debt (ONE of TWO)

July 10, 2018, 11:46 a.m.
An independent movie on the question "Where does money come from?" became the most successful film on banking on the internet and was praised by notables like Catherine Austin Fitts, David Korten, Hazel Henderson, and Tom Greco. With over 2 million downloads between 2006 and 2009 and translated into 20 languages, the film has remained to this date one of the extraordinary teaching tools and inspiration for the monetary reform movement. This program is an update of TUC Radio's 2009 Film on Radio version. Even though Grignon has since produced two sequels that deal with bailouts, and stimulus packages, and how to create a nurturing economy, this first film remains a must see in the opinion of Korten, Greco, Elizabeth Kucinich, and that of many influential monetary reform organizations. Indeed the film has become more important today as the question of how to prevent another banking bailout remains unanswered.   In part one of this double program Paul Grignon makes the case that only a very small part of our money supply is created by the government. The vast majority of money is created by banks whenever a loan or mortgage is made. Banks, which are private institutions, are given enormous power to make and manage money and governments in most countries borrow the money for their operations from bank and have the taxpayers pay the interest. Among the unforgettable quotes included in the film is this one by Congressman Wright Patman “I have never yet had anyone who could, through the use of logic and reason, justify the Federal Government borrowing the use of its own money... I believe the time will come when people will demand that this be changed...(and) when they will actually blame you and me and everyone else connected with the Congress for sitting idly by and permitting such an idiotic system to continue.”  Patman was chair of the US House Committee on Banking and Currency from 1965 to 1975, the year before he died.
