Yanis Varoufakis: How Capitalism Works -- and How It Fails (ONE of TWO)
June 19, 2018, 4:34 p.m.
Yanis Varoufakis was already an internationally known economist and academic when he was elected to the Greek parliament as a member of the Syriza party. He served as Minister of Finance from January to July 2015. He resigned when Syriza broke its promise to re-negotiate Greece's debt and significantly curtail the austerity measures which had led to the longest recession in post-war history.
Varoufakis led negotiations with Greece's creditors during this government-debt crisis. However, he failed to reach an agreement with them. This led to the 2015 Greek bailout referendum.
Varoufakis criticized the troika of Greece's lenders, the IMF, the ECB, and the European Commission. They insisted on these bailout loans. Varoufakis said that this was a transfer of losses from private banks to Greece's and Europe's taxpayers - another bailout.
Yanis Varoufakis is the author of many books in international distribution. Among them his most recent: Talking to My Daughter About the Economy. (2017) and Adults in the Room: My Battle With Europe's Deep Establishment. (2017) and The Global Minotaur: America, the True Causes of the Financial Crisis and the Future of the World Economy.
He spoke at Town Hall at the University Temple United Methodist Church in Seattle, WA, on May 15, 2018 and was recorded by Mike McCormick of Talking Stick TV.

Ali Abunimah on who REALLY tried to corrupt our presidential election? Hint: It's Israel, not Russia!
June 17, 2018, 7:01 p.m.
Palestinian journalist Ali Abunimah spoke at the annual conference of Washington Report on Middle East Affairs in March of 2018. We present that speech here.
After noting that Hillary Clinton was eminently capable of losing even a pristine election, Abunimah reviews the evidence of foreign interference by Russia and finds it unconvincing. Meanwhile, there is lots of evidence of Israeli interference in the opposite direction. And similar forces are trying to prevent the City of Cambridge from committing to the Hewlett-Packard BDS campaign, and trying to prevent Congress from passing a bill, HR4391, Promoting Human Rights by Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian Children.

Selections from Skidmark Bob's fine 2011 audio collage on the horrors and futility of the US's recent wars. An engaging mix of Hollywood film clips, TV news clips, new and old music--and a good British documentary about the experiences of soldiers, in a doomed outpost in Afghanistan, slowly being wiped out by the Taliban.
Musical highlights include a stunning update of Country Joe's "Feels Like I'm Fixin' to Die"--plus original (1965) AND punk-rock versions of "Eve of Destruction."

Einstein's Egalitarian Political Vision Wasn't Welcome in the USA
June 17, 2018, 10:10 a.m.
Albert Einstein is often portrayed as a fuzzy minded genius. But he was in fact a committed peace activist and champion of racial equality.
As such he befriended Paul Robeson, Marian Anderson and W.E.B. DuBois, and opposed the House UnAmerican Activities Committee.
For his principles and activity, he was stalked by the FBI. Jerome points out the Democrats and Republicans connived at trying to control Einstein.
