Joe Lauria: Bob Parry, Consortium News, & Independent Journalism
April 25, 2018, 1:26 p.m.
In this interview, veteran foreign and UN correspondent, Joe Lauria, the new editor of Consortium News, following the death of its founder, Robert Parry, speaks about Parry's history, his helping to expose the Iran-Contra connection and later âthe October surprise,âand how the censorship of his writings by the mainstream press led him to form a âconsortiumâ of independent journalists which has since become the most important source of well documented information countering the fake news promulgated by the mainstream and now by some formerly âalternativeâ news sources.
Lauria describes his own experiences in censorship in reporting the build-up to the Iraq war that eventually led him to be fired and to begin writing for Consortium News.
Lauria responds to a question about the lawsuit filed by the DNC against Russia, Wikileaks, and the Trump campaign which he sees as a fundraising gimmick by the Democrats but also one that will reveal the ties that Bernie Sanders has to the party and its endorsement of its hawklike approach to Russia, Syria and Iran.
He also speaks of Consortium News being the only site publishing the letters and statements of VIPS, the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, that challenge mainstream thinking and US foreign policy and that it will continue to do that.
He also points out that these former intelligence professionals have been taking their independent positions, as has Consortium News, before RT, before Russiagate appeared on the scene.
Lauria then speaks of his plans to expand Consortium News coverage to other issues, most notably labor, and recalls that in the past, most newspapers had special labor reporters and that Consortium News is looking for well-documented contributions from journalists on all issues that are relevant for the general public. He then expands upon the role and problems of labor and workers in the current environment.
Those interested in contributing either articles or support for Consortium News can do so by going to consortiumnews, com.
Jeff Blankfort:News/Op: Robert Fisk on Douma; MSM Lies Exposed!
April 25, 2018, 11:26 a.m.
I discuss history of âfake news,â of US mainstream media collaborating with the government in uncritically promoting every US war and intervention with some âalternativeâ sources now ahead of the government or at least on the same page in pushing fake news. (I am referring to Democracy Now! But don't name it).
I cite Consortium News as a beacon of genuine journalism in this field of slime and note that my interview guest, Joe Lauria, a veteran foreign correspondent, has become the new editor of Consortium News following the death of its founder, Robert Parry.
I then poke fun at the lawsuit filed by DNC chief Tom Perez against Russia, Wikileaks and the Trump campaign for meddling in the 2016 elections, noting that by acting as if the exposure of the contents of the DNC's and John Podesta's emails were anything but a healthy exposure to the DNC's efforts to sabotage Sanders' nomination, letting the party's dissidents know that nothing has or will change at the top.
I then read from a report made by Robert Fisk from his visit to Douma where he learns that the accusation that Syria had used chlorine gas on the city was a total fabrication that the UK, US etc. funded White Helmets were responsible in spreading.
I then note that a Christian radio station that backs Trump sent a reporter to Douma and his interviews with the residents there confirms Fisk's account.
Finally, I update the protests by Palestinians in Gaza and how the violence on the party of Israeli soldiers in responding to the protests led Jerusalem born star Hollywood actress, Natalie Portman, to refuse to go to Israel to accept a $2 million Genesis prize and how one Israeli official wants her stripped of her Israeli citizenship.

Crypto-Carbon: Nori's Paul Gambill
April 24, 2018, 4:52 p.m.
If you ask most people what they think of blockchain applications or cryptocurrency, the response is usually a blank stare of utter bafflement. Well, this week on Sea Change Radio, we are going to try to make some sense of this arcane concept because our guest today, Paul Gambill, has devised a carbon dioxide removal marketplace which incorporates blockchain applications. Gambill explains how his new startup, Nori, uses blockchain applications, how it plans to ramp up into a vibrant marketplace of buyers and sellers, and why he believes this could actually help reverse the effects of climate change.

The Israel Lobby and the U.N. Ian Williams
April 24, 2018, 12:12 p.m.
Ian Williams has been Washington Report on Middle East Affairs' U.N. correspondent since 1991. The Washington Report magazine, published eight times per year, focuses on "news and analysis from and about the Middle East and U.S. policy in that region".
Williams has been a columnist for The Nation and the Guardian-American online, and an editor for the World Policy Journal. He is the author of The U.N. for Beginners and the recently published UNtold: The Real Story of the United Nations in Peace and War.
He was one of the speakers at the annual conference organized by the Institute for Research Middle Eastern Policy and the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. He spoke at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, on March 2, 2018.
As this program goes out for broadcast at the end of April 2018 the Palestinians, who are held captive in the Gaza Strip, are continuing their non-violent campaign to focus the attention of the world on their plight. Since mass non-violent protests started there on March 30, 2018, 39 Palestinians, including children and media, were shot dead, with thousands wounded by Israeli snipers. These snipers are in no danger and shoot from across the border fence â- a grave violation of international law.
This talk by William - as well as the talks by Virginia Tilley and Noura Erakat, that were already broadcast via TUC Radio, give important background information to better understand the current situation in Israel/Palestine.
#529 -- The Myth of Progress, the Necessity of Rebellion (Part 2) (R)
April 24, 2018, 8:06 a.m.
In a brilliant speech, CHRIS HEDGES argues that the class war is real ... that the ordinary people are losing ... that all of society's institutions have betrayed the people and "sold out" to Established Power ... that whatever political and economic justice there has been exists only because ordinary people struggled hard against the elite to create that justice... and that widespread nonviolent rebellion by the people is now essential to prevent disaster.
