April 19, 2018, noon
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

The Crimes of the Rwandan Patriotic Front

April 17, 2018, 8:08 p.m.
The RPF of Rwanda had bad sectarian intentions from their first invasion of Rwanda in October 1990, when thousands of innocent Hutu peasants were driven from their land and became refugees in the north of their impoverished country. Big media said nothing about this and instead helped create a false narrative, with bloody consequences. The peace process of the 1990s ended when the RPF shot down the plane carrying the President of the country. Millions lost their lives in the subsequent fighting and invasion of Zaire/Congo. Judi Rever outlines how all this happened.

How Support for Israels Violations of International Law Puts the U.S. on the Wrong Side of History - Noura Erakat

April 17, 2018, 4:23 p.m.
Noura Erakat, is a noted Palestinian legal scholar, human rights attorney, and activist. She is an assistant professor at George Mason University, and was one of the speakers at the annual conference organized by the Institute for Research Middle Eastern Policy and the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. She spoke at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, on March 2, 2018. The theme of the conference was: The Israel Lobby And American Policy 2018. Speakers explored the different ways in which a powerful Lobby for Israel, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee,AIPAC, influences US law, our Middle East policy and our elections, steering the flow of donations to Israel-friendly members of Congress who ensure the flow of foreign aid and weapons to Israel. Noura Erakat followed Dr. Virginia Tilley. She argued in her presentation that the U.S. is supporting an Apartheid State in Israel. Noura Erakat, in contrast, depicted Israel as a Settler Colonialist state. She said: “I want to urge us to think of this as settler colonialism first—a project that’s distinct from colonization, in that the settler who moves into the colony is traveling with their sovereignty with an intent to stay…. There is the removal of the native with the intent to replace them with the settler …" Noura Erakat carefully lays out the argument in this talk and concludes with a deeply disturbing parallel. “The United States” she says, “is a settler colony. What we see going on in Standing Rock and the Dakota Access Pipeline is actually the removal of natives, and taking away of their lands, and obscuring the fact that they exist as a people. It is perpetuating a myth that the natives have disappeared in very similar ways that we perpetuate the myth of disappearance of Palestinians.” She is also the producer of the short video “Black Palestinian Solidarity,” and is currently working on a book project tentatively titled Justice for Some: Law as Politics in the Question of Palestine.
