Sounds Irish 2-15-18

Feb. 15, 2018, 4:41 a.m.
Sounds Irish is a weekly program coming straight from County Wicklow in Ireland, hosted by Joe Bollard, one of the elder statesmen of the Irish show band scene. Each program features a variety of Irish and Irish-related songs from many different genres, along with a healthy dose of banter from your host. Please consider adding Sounds Irish to your stations' weekly lineup of programs. All we ask is that we know where the show is being aired so that we can give mention on the program. To contact the show, it is best to send email to Joe Bollard directly at everton274@sky.com The 2-hour program is posted weekly in multiple parts for broadcasters to insert their own breaks.

Jeff Blankfort: News/Op: US-Israel's still secret Iran Plan

Feb. 14, 2018, 1:03 p.m.
Today, I had hoped to interview Grant Smith of Irmep, the Inst. For Research: Middle East Policy about the secret agreement signed between the US and Israel on Dec. 12 targeting Iran and its activities in Syria, Lebanon and throughout the Middle East and speak with him about the upcoming conference on March 2nd at the National Press Club in Washington, on the Israel Lobby and American Policy co-sponsored by the Washington Rept. On Middle East Affairs which is routinely ignored by the US media, so-called “alternative” as well as the mainstream, but there was a problem with the station's phone and the interview had to be postponed until next month following the conference. I did review the US-Israel secret plan for Iran, then went on to present two views on Israel's shooting down of the Iranian drone and Syria's shooting down of the Israeli F-16, the first by the Times of Israel's Judah Ari Gross and a very different take by Ha'aretz's Gideon Levy who pointed out Israel's chutzpah when it comes to respect for sovereignty. I moved from there to the charges brought against Netanyahu for corruption and provided some details on his effort to bribe Yediot Ahranot to give him more favorable coverage exchange for Sheldon Adelson's cutting back the circulation of Yediot's chief rival, the free daily, Israel Hayom. I then quoted an Al-Monitor reporter on the Turkey-US crisis and the possibility of Turkey attacking US forces over the US support for the Kurds. Since I was unable to get Grant Smith the phone, I read the article he had posted today online on AntiWar.Com about the efforts of the Israel Project to prevent the showing of Al Jazeera's undercover story about the US Israel Lobby. (https://original.antiwar.com/smith-grant/2018/02/13/will-al-jazeera-air-lobby-aipac-meets/ and also an article about it in The Tablet which describes how a New Jersey Jewish congressman, Josh Gottheimer plans to get Congress and the pro-Israel community to force Al-Jazeera to register as a foreign agent (when apparently it is Gottheimer who should do so,) I then spoke about the efforts of Pres. Kennedy to get the American Zionist Council, AIPAC's predecessor to register as a foreign agent and how his death put an end to the effort which none of his successors has tried to accomplish and the power that the Israel Lobby has not only over Congress but most of our state governments, as well. I also reviewed the speakers for the March 2nd conference on the Israel lobby which can be found on www.irmep.org

Feb. 13, 2018, 4:56 p.m.
John Perry Barlow, Grateful Dead lyricist, co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and environmentalist, died in his sleep this past week at the age of 70 after a lengthy illness. Host Alex Wise had the honor of meeting and interviewing Mr. Barlow for Sea Change Radio a couple of times and this week we pay tribute to him by re-visiting those discussions. Among other things, he talks about the his time with the Grateful Dead, his conservative Wyoming roots, and potential energy solutions for the next generation. Listen now as we remember the man who provided the words to the soundtrack for so many millions of music listeners, fought for civil liberties in the digital age and made the world a far more interesting place.

Michael Parenti: How I became an Activist

Feb. 13, 2018, 4:22 p.m.
Parenti rarely talks about his life. How does a NYC street kid get accepted to Yale? How does he lose the privilege of his PhD. in an arrest at a demonstration against the war on Vietnam, and become an internationally acclaimed author and lecturer? Michael Parenti grew up in a poor, working class Italian community in New York City. When he received his PhD in political science from Yale in 1962 he was the success and pride of his family. He risked and ended his academic career when he openly opposed the war on Vietnam. Ultimately the choice he made then was a good one. He now is an independent political writer and thinker and author of over 20 books. His topics are history, fascism, US Imperialism, globalization and terrorism. His writings have been translated into more than a dozen languages.
Recorded in Berkeley, CA June 6, 2003, by Brian Barry. Length 64 min
