Out of the Woods - Show #397 - 11-18-17
Nov. 9, 2017, 11:27 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Sonic Cafe #61/Is it GEORGE, or is it WILL?
Nov. 9, 2017, 7:35 a.m.
Sonic Café. Welcome to episode 61. Iâm your host Scott Clark. You remember our 43rd president George W. Bush right? You know â¦911, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Mission Accomplished, Hurricane Katrina and the Great Recession ⦠yeah that guy. Now that the dust has settled on those years, we think weâve identified what the âWâ in George W Bush actually stands for⦠his alter ego Will Ferrell! Seems to be so, because whenever President Bush stepped in front of the TV cameras Will must have been there⦠like a little tiny guy sitting on his shoulder, whispering all those historic one-liners directly into his ear. To test our theory, the Sonic Cafe has developed a little game we call⦠Is it George or is it Will? Weâve mixed up a bunch of sound clips thatâll play back to back. Listen to see if you can identify which clip is George W. Bush and which is his alter ego Will Ferrell. The answers may surprise you. All that plus an eclectic music mix including classic jazz from Andrew Hill, Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes, Ani DiFranco, Joshua James and more⦠covering 43 years⦠in honor of our 43rd president. So join us for⦠Is it George or is it Will?⦠this time from the Sonic Café.

Phil Giraldi on US missiles, the M-I-C-C, Lebanon War Prospects
Nov. 8, 2017, 1:21 p.m.
In a wide ranging interview, CIA veteran Phil Giraldi, questions the capability of US missiles to defend the continent and suggests that if US citizens on the West Coast were aware that the military's missile defense system was a fraud they would think very differently about the Trump administration's threats to North Korea.
He places the responsibility for the crisis on the US which has refused to negotiate a formal end to the war and that the position of Pyongyang in the face of US threats is understandable while acknowledging that the threat of its own weapons is very real.
The discussion turns to the history of costly US weapons that don't perform as expected and that their efficacy is secondary to the profit motive which has led to the manufacturers like Raytheon and Lockheed Martin to have job-producing factories in every state and in key Congressional districts to defuse any attempt by Congress to restrain spending. The F-35 is used as an example. Giraldi notes that Eisenhower's initial warning to the public was against the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex, but under pressure from members of Congress, he left them out to the public's detriment.
Giraldi also expressed concern about a possible attack on Lebanon, given the almost simultaneous release of files from Osama bin Laden that appear to show Al-Qaeda cooperation with Iran, Lebanon's Sunni prime minister, Sayad Hariri, having fled to Saudi Arabia, saying his life was threatened, and the Saudis then accusing Iran and Hezbollah of attacking Riyadh from Yemen.
Giraldi decries the lack of information on such key issues, including the failure to report on the Friends of Israel Defense Force âcharityâ raising funds, being provided by the alternative media and singles out Democracy Now for just doing the stories that it finds âsafe,â reporting on the actions of the Israel Lobby being one of them.
At the end of the program he points out that the Lobby is everywhere in the West, with the exposure of British cabinet minister Priti Patel's undisclosed meeting with Netanyahu and Israeli officials and her attempt to get British taxpayers to pay for Israeli military hospitals in the Golan being a current example.
Jeff Blankfort:News/Op: No. Korea, ME War Moves, Balfour Explained
Nov. 8, 2017, 12:54 p.m.
I begin by questioning the ability of the US to actually shoot down incoming missiles which is yet unproven and quote from guest Phil Giraldi's article confirming that. I then report on the CIA having passed on newly declassified files captured from Osama bin Laden suggesting cooperation between Al Qaeda and Iran to pseudo journalists of the Long War Journal, a project of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a necon pro-Israel think tank and successor to Project for a New American Century.
I suggest that this, combined with Saudi accusations that it has been attacked by Iran and Hezbollah and the sudden trip of Lebanon prime minister Sayad Hariri to Riyadh, claiming that his life was in danger and that Iran was taking over Lebanon, are signs that an attack on Lebanon by one or more of the US-Israel-KSA Axis is in the offing.
I then note that the past week had seen the centenaries of two of the most important events of the 20th century, the Russian revolution and the Balfour Declaration and proceed to show, with historic quotes, that Balfour was a gift to the Zionists for having helped push the US into WW1 on Britain's side, thus enabling it to win. I point out that listeners will not hear or read about these documents because the Zionists don't want the public to know about them and the same reason applies to the media's silence about the Friends of the Israel Defense Force's record breaking fundraiser, Nov. 3, in which it raised $53.8 million tax exempt dollars for Israel's Wehrmacht, $16.6 million of it coming from the Oracle's Larry Ellison. That the Zionists control the US media is a given.

Helena Norberg Hodge: Big Picture Activism
Nov. 7, 2017, 2:59 p.m.
Local Futures, also known as Economics of Happiness, is an organization founded by Helena Norberg Hodge. They are pioneers of the new economy movement, that is dedicated to the renewal of community, ecological health and local economies world wide.
In July 2017 Helena Norberg Hodge spoke at Schumacher College in England. She began her Earth Talk by recalling the experience that changed her life, her visit to the remote region of Ladakh, in northern India. Ladakh had escaped colonial domination until the late 1970. In 1975 Helena Norberg Hodge found an almost intact traditional culture. But by the late 1980s Ladakhi culture had been dramatically changed and many of their values destroyed - not by war or slavery but by the introduction of globalized trade and consumerism.
Recorded on July 26, 2017
Helena Norberg Hodge is a recipient of the Right Livelihood Award. Her book Ancient Futures describes the Ladakh experience and has been translated into more than 35 languages. She is the producer of the award-winning documentary The Economics of Happiness and director of Local Futures and the International Alliance for Localization (IAL)
Sammy Roth: Desert Power Investigation
Nov. 7, 2017, 2:20 p.m.
With all the false claims about âfake newsâ and verifiable lies being proffered as facts by the president and others, itâs quite refreshing to be reminded that there is still some fantastic journalism taking place in this country. This week on Sea Change Radio, host Alex Wise speaks to Desert Sun energy reporter Sammy Roth about his investigative piece on the Imperial Irrigation District (IID). Rothâs work exposed deep conflicts of interest at this district, tucked away in a remote section of southeastern California. We talk about the dramatic impact Rothâs reporting has had at IID, and more generally about how good journalism can be a force for rapid social change.
