Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 39 Moronica. This episode, we leave America for Moronica, where an evil cabal of capitalists need to install a moron dictator. An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. AIPAC, Israel Lobby Blasted: M Peled, G Levy, MJ Rosenberg

Today, I have dipped into Takes on the World’s archives for a very special program, one that I originally played on May 13, 2015, the likes of which you are not going to find on any other radio station. What you’ll hear was recorded at a conference at the National Press Club in Washington on April 10, 2015, that addressed the question of whether or not the Israel Lobby was good for the United States or for Israel. The event was sponsored by the Washington Report on the Middle East and the Institute for Research: Middle East Policy, whose director, Grant Smith, is a frequent guest on this program. Despite a stellar list of nationally and internationally known speakers appearing before a packed National Press Club conference room, and the unquestionable relevance of the subject to the American political scene, there was not a single word of the event in the mainstream US media. This was pointed out by Ralph Nader on the CounterPunch website which was, ironically, the only reporting of the event in the alternative media. All the presentations ran under 20 minutes which enabled me to put together three that I considered among the most important for an American audience. The first speaker is Israeli born Miko Peled, author of The Generals' Son, who now lives in San Diego, and whom I interviewed in October, 2013. Following Peled will be, arguably, Israel's most controversial and well known journalist, Gideon Levy, from Ha'aretz, whom I also interviewed several years back. Concluding the hour will be MJ Rosenberg, formerly the editor of AIPAC's Near East Report, and a veteran of 15 years working for members of Congress on Capitol Hill. Each of the speakers will tell you something about themselves and how they arrived at their current positions. Given the expressed desire by Congress and Resident Trump to bow to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s and AIPAC’s wishes and walk away from the nuclear deal negotiated by the Obama administration with Iran, what you will hear now is perhaps more relevant today than it was two years ago. I began this series with Part ONE on Waring's time in the New Zealand Parliament and got many calls asking for the second installment that I had replaced with a new talk by her. So here is the program that I skipped: Who’s Counting – Marilyn Waring on War, Sex, Lies and Global Economics (Part TWO) – ARCHIVE This film was a secret favorite for those who wanted to decode the economic system of perpetual, destructive growth. And for those who looked for an intelligent explanation of the connection between economics and war. Marilyn Waring was only 22 when she was first elected to the New Zealand Parliament. This segment is about war. Under the GDP accounting system war is the biggest growth industry of all. When John Maynard Keynes and Richard Stone invented the GDP formula during WWII they explicitly designed is as a system of: “how to pay for the war”. This British system was imposed on the world in 1953. No country may be a member of the UN, deal with the IMF or World Bank unless they do their national accounting based on the GDP” And some say that unlimited growth along with globalization has driven the wars and environmental destruction of the past 50 plus years. In spite of the magnitude of the problem with Growth and GDP accounting there is an encouraging aspect. If a global system can be designed by two economists, Mr. Keynes and M. Stone, and if it can get imposed – not so long ago – in 1953 – it is possible and necessary to design a different system and set a date for change in the near future.
