Out of the Woods - Show #417 - 4-7-18
March 29, 2018, 5:56 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Liberation Seder supports Palestine and renews Judaism
March 28, 2018, 9:09 p.m.
Hamilton is no stranger to the "Liberation Seder," a new way of performing the Passover ritual in solidarity with groups that are oppressed, particularly the Palestinians.
Israel's occupation of Palestine, and the ideologies that justify it, no longer resonate with a growing section of the Jewish and general communities. Equality, and the rights of nations to self-determination, are concepts increasingly difficult to repress and deny.
Rabbi Dr. Lucia Pizarro has been at the forefront of renewing the Jewish faith by transforming its traditions into ceremonies that fight oppression. She describes the Jewish Liberation Theology Institute, and two events in April that the broader community is welcome to participate in.

Sonic Cafe #80/Twilight Zone Classic: Escape Clause
March 28, 2018, 12:10 p.m.
Welcome to another Twilight Zone Classic here at the Sonic Café. Iâm your host Scott Clark. This time we present Escape Clause, which originally aired in 1959. We like it because it explores the notion of extending our human lifespan years beyond the normal⦠approaching immortality. But⦠and thereâs always a BUT. To do so, our protagonist must make a deal with the DEVIL himself. Great idea, what could go wrong⦠right? Well, what we quickly discover is that without the certainty of death, life quickly becomes rather tiresome and boring, which, as youâll hear, plays directly into the devils hands. Weâve mixed this tale with a devilish set of tunes covering over thirty years. Listen for Fastball, Beck, The White Stripes, Gun, The Clash, Echo and the Bunnymen and of course more, as we flirt with immortality, and dance with the devil this time on another Twilight Zone Classic here at the Sonic Café.

Michael Parenti: Capitalism's Apocalypse (ONE of ONE) Why the rich can't save anybody - not even themselves
March 27, 2018, 3:09 p.m.
Parenti predicted the financial crisis and said that giant corporate capitalism â by itâs very nature â is an apocalyptic system. When unregulated the built in elements of ever increased growth may well bring the whole system down. And he described the growing national debt not as a tragic mistake but as a means to shift ever more money from the tax payers to the financial institutions in the form of interest payments.
This speech is an analysis of the many structural flaws of a capitalist system that puts it on a permanent collision course with democracy. Recorded on August 23, 2008 at the closing reception for Maria Gilardinâs art show. This rebroadcast, made in March 2018, is eerily contemporary and lends a historic perspective to current events.
Afrocentrism; Afrofuturism or African Liberation: Could the Cinematic Allegory of Wakanda Ideologically Subvert and Divide the Black Revolution and the Afro-Diaspora?
March 27, 2018, 2:25 p.m.
*Editorâs Note: (The producers sincerely apologise to our listeners; distributors and affiliated radio outlets for the lateness of this dispatch.)
SUMMARY: [From @TheAngryindian] // The recent film âBlack Pantherâ, based on the classic Marvel comic book character created in 1966 by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby, is being heralded by many as a historic breakthrough for increased Afro-American representation in the film/entertainment industry. And given the justified arguments made by People-of-Colour for professional fairness; artistic freedom and economic inclusion in both mainstream demographic representation and accuracy regarding African Peoples; our histories and the varied, localised expressions of the diasporic Afro-aesthetic in pop-media; it seemed like BP would be a very good thing indeed. But is it? Because once afforded the opportunity, just the opposite seems to have happened. Logically, I accept that BP can, and will, be seen as nothing more than simple amusement by most people. But I have to ask: why would contemporary Black Americans â living under the fascist-friendly Trump Administration â decide to apply their unique creativity towards modifying a ground-breaking; anti-racist comic book into a contemporary action-flick that artfully reflects exactly the sort of mind-fuckingly subliminal; anti-Black Liberation arguments the traditional exploiters and oppressors of Africa have used (for centuries) to psych-out Black people in the Motherland and abroad?
EXTRAS: A selected audio history of US Antifa during the 1980âs by a group of original participants (via the good anarchist folks over at itsgoingdown.org)
a rebel song recognising Eire, St. Patrickâs Day and Irish liberation with âAntifascistaâ by the band Punk rounding out the programme.
All this and much more on, 4WR.

Progressive Race in the Keystone State
March 27, 2018, 11:07 a.m.
What would US energy policy look like if we had more committed progressives in Congress? Our guest today on Sea Change Radio, Ray Linsenmayer, hopes he can help us find out. Just weeks ago, Democrat Conor Lamb narrowly beat Republican Rick Saccone in a Pennsylvania special election to fill a seat in the US House of Representatives. Now Conor Lamb finds himself having to run again in a different, newly created congressional district â the primary set for May 15th. Ray Linsenmayer is among Lambâs Democratic challengers. Linsenmayer is a former executive in the renewable energy space and an unabashed progressive. We ask him to help us sort out the confusing political landscape in Pennsylvania, with its redistricting, gerrymandering, and special elections; we learn more about his positions on energy solutions like carbon capture and storage, and we find out whatâs driving him to run for Congress. Then, we dig into the Sea Change Radio archives and learn more about desalination technology from energy reporter Sammy Roth.

Episode 2018.01. A New Vision for America and the World and its Eventual Occupy-Style Backlash
March 26, 2018, 1:27 p.m.
After a three and a half month (unplanned) hiatus, I am Back with a whole new episode. While the planning for the new format continues, this show is the first published in this new year and it is the first I recorded for the new year (recorded in January, circumstances outside my control prevented its publishing). It is, a spiritual journey into the need to create a new world vision; it is literally a spiritual calling to the Millennials (born 1980 â 2010 or 1985 â 2010) to rise to the occasion, the trumpeting sound rises over the horizon calling forward our destiny. I begin the episode with a voice mail I left for The Best of the Left Podcast, a voice mail ultimately played on an episode, far from its appearance here being an ego stroking exercise, the voice mail (recently discovered) sets the tone for the forthcoming show content. It is preceded by a clip from Noam Chomsky and a man named Ben Shapiro who needs a history lesson on what Capitalism really is. Then the meet of the show, my commentary. Enjoy!
