Two Criminal Accusations Against Russia. Probing the Skripal Affair and Flight MH 17

March 23, 2018, 11:45 a.m.
This week, the Global Research News Hour probes two major incidents in the last four years which have jaded public (Western) attitudes toward Russia and their President Vladimir Putin. First we hear from Moscow based journalist and author John Helmer about his take on the poisoning of former Russian double-agent Sergei Skripal, and outlines whether the evidence points to a professional assassination attempt and the assertion of Russian culpability. In the final half hour, we hear from Kees Van der Pijl, author of a recently released book on MH 17. Van Der Pijl is convinced that the official story of the downing of the flight is impossible, outlines the impact of the downing geo-politically, and speaks to the unlikelihood of political or media breakthroughs regardless of the evidence. John Helmer is the longest continuously serving foreign correspondent in Russia, A former professor of political science, sociology and journalism and former staffer with the Carter Administration, Helmer is a frequent commenter on topics related to Russia. His site, 'Dances with Bears' can be found at johnhelmer.net. Kees Van Der Pijl is a Professor Emeritus of International Relations at the University of Sussex and former director of the Centre for Global Political economy. He is currently active with the Dutch anti-fascist resistance, having served as its president. In 2017 he authored the book, Flight MH17, Ukraine and the new Cold War.

Out of the Woods - Show #416 - 3-31-18

March 22, 2018, 7:44 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Susan Akram analyzes the horrors of Israel's apartheid legal system

March 21, 2018, 7:19 p.m.
Today we feature an in-depth historical analysis of the many Israeli laws and policies which define the legal structure for its discriminatory, apartheid state. Boston University law school professor Susan Akram lays it all out in a presentation she gave at Harvard’s JFK School of Government. Akram directs BU Law’s International Human Rights Clinic, where she supervises students engaged in international advocacy in domestic, international, regional, and UN fora. She is a recognized expert on refugee law, and as such teaches and lectures throughout the world. Before that, we discuss and comment on some recent revelations. First is the fawning over Israel by some of our "liberal" politicians at the annual meeting of AIPAC. Second, it's been a very bad week for those claiming that Israel has the most moral army in the world. We give only a small sample of the soldiers' many abuses of Palestinians in recent days, with the Israeli army caught blatantly lying.
