This was our International Womenâs Day show and it took place a day before the start of the Week against Police Brutality. We aired four commentaries from Critical Resistance, grassroots organization pushing for abolition of the prison industrial complex. The clips included the voices of Laura Whitehorn, a former political prisoner who is currently working with the Reduce Aging People in Prison campaign, Maya Schenwar who is the editor of Truth Out, Alice Kim from the Prison Neighborhood Arts Project, and Andrea Ritchie who is the author of Invisible No More. We also aired a short clip by Robyn Maynard speaking to the themes of her book called Policing Black Lives. The last pre-recorded piece we shared was an interview done by PBS News Hour with Tayari Jones about her new book An American Marriage, which is getting a lot of press coverage in the US at the moment. We ended the show with a news segment about Palestinian women prisoners.

We also re-aired an interview with Jarrod Shook conducted by CPR Kingston about the struggle against pay cuts in the federal prison system, including a recent court decision.
Heads up thereâs a tech error at the top of the show â it opens with host, Yasmeen, part way through reading a statement about Black History Month that we have been including in our February shows. We also share a story about Ahed Tamimi, a Palestinian teenager who is facing a decade in prison in a military prison in Israel.

As the United Nations and human Rights organizations like Amnesty International ratchet up their criticisms of the Syrian military campaign, and as Turkey conducts its own operations in the Kurdish-occupied Afrin region, the Global Research News Hour radio program separates the facts from the propaganda and outlines the realities concerned members of the public need to focus on if peace is to be restored to the country and the region.
In our fist interview, Canadian independent journalist Eva Bartlett deconstructs the propaganda campaign based on her research and her own on-the-ground reporting from the conflict zone.
Next we hear from British journalist Tom Duggan. He has spent the last four years of his life residing in Damascus and brings us a recent report about the carnage he has witnessed and the role of Western media in abetting the crimes that continue to unfold.
Finally, Patrick Henningsen, founder and editor of 21st Century Wire, brings us his analysis of the actual reasons for America's interest in undermining the Syrian government, the strategies being pursued in the wake of Syrian military victories, and where Turkey, the Kurds, and Israel fit in.

Out of the Woods - Show #414 - 3-17-18
March 8, 2018, 7:52 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul
