#485 -- Russia, China, and the Crisis of the US Ruling Class, Part 2

June 18, 2017, 3:57 p.m.
In a recent talk in Hartford, GLEN FORD insightfully dissects US geostrategic policy. He explains how the current anti-Russia hysteria--and, more importantly, the US's disastrous and failing military interventions in the Middle East--are part of a larger effort to contain (and if necessary strangle) China. The US ruling class's "crisis" is genuine: the increasing threat that China poses to their global hegemony. (Continued under "Credits" ... )

PalestiniansPodcast.com, our media sister ; On Ilan Pappe's new book; ...

June 18, 2017, 1:43 p.m.
Today we have a triple-header. We begin with the introduction of a podcast which has a similar mission to that of This Week In Palestine. It is a podcast created by Nadia Abuelezam called Palestinians Podcast, and its mission is to give voice to Palestinians telling their stories. It can be accessed on the internet as PalestiniansPodcast.com. We sat down with Nadia to let her tell her story about the creation of Palestinians Podcast and a bit about her journey growing up Arab in America . Nadia Abuelezam is a second generation Palestinian who was raised in the San Francisco area. She is an assistant professor at Boston College School of Nursing and is an epidemiologist. For our second segment today we feature journalist and author, Max Blumenthal interviewing new Israeli historian, Ilan Pappe on his newest book, Ten Myths About Israel, as recorded on The Real News Network. Finally, before we end today, we read a news account from Telesure that wraps up the Palestinian Prisoners' hunger strike, which is now mercifully over. After more than 1,500 Palestinian prisoners staged a mass, historic hunger strike for 40 days, the Palestinian Committee of Prisoners' officials confirmed that nearly 80 percent of the prisoners’ demands were met as the strike ended. After 40 days, the health of many prisoners was deteriorating rapidly, with 182 striking political prisoners having been hospitalized. The strike was met with solidarity demonstrations throughout occupied Palestine, and around the world, with near-daily demonstrations, rallies, protests, and strikes.

Busting The Myth of Canada's Benevolent Foreign Policy: A Conversation with Yves Enger & Richard Sanders

June 16, 2017, 8:28 a.m.
On the heels of the Trudeau Government unveiling its new Defence Policy, the Global Research News Hour confronts some of the mythology around Canada's "benevolence" on the world stage. Foreign Policy critic Yves Engler and researcher/writer and magazine publisher Richard Sanders discuss the question of the public's blindness to the harm it has done from colonial Africa to residential schools to Haiti to Libya. They probe Canada's support for Israeli apartheid, and they discuss whether the charismatic new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau represents a true improvement, over his predecessor Stephen Harper. We also get Engler's take on the newly released Defence Policy and argues that the prescribed boosts in military spending undermines rather than upholds Canadian national sovereignty.

TB 170616 Who Won the War?

June 15, 2017, 9:52 p.m.
This week’s show starts right off out the gate by exposing the Great Wall Street chop shop! Next, we describe a couple of examples of the Machine distracting people using tempests in teapots. For the ‘Irony of the Week’ feature, we point out one of many ironies (and one of many roadblocks) to ‘developing’ Africa. We describe the many advantages (and a couple of the disadvantages) to living in Canada. Then, the Toothless Old Grandpa makes another appearance and tells us about fake news about fake news that is fake. Then — for the feature story this week, we ask the musical question: “Who is winning in the War on Drugs?” Dirty laundry galore this week. You occasionally may need to hold your nose.
