This show includes a live interview with Mostafa Henaway, an organizer with Tadamon and one of the organizers of a May 20, 2017 demonstration in Montreal in solidarity with hunger striking Palestinian prisoners. Mostafa talked to us about the recent suspension of the hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners as well as the international solidarity that happened during the strike. We also aired Part 2 of a talk by Ardath Whynaucht, a sociology professor at Mount Allison University. In the talk, Ardath speaks about queer prison justice. We also included two different clips from prisonradio.org â one by Mumia Abu-Jamal about the end of the hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners and one by Kerry Shakaboona Marshall about the upcoming Millions March for Prisoners Human Rights, which is happening in Washington, DC this August.

This show featured audio from a talk by Albert Woodfox of the Angola 3. The talk took place on May 19, 2017 in the Hall Building at Concordia University in Montreal. Woodfox spend 44 years in solitary confinement in a Louisiana Prison where he, along with Herman Wallace and Robert King, founded a chapter of the Black Panther Party. Speaking with Woodfox was Arlene Gallone, a Montrealer who is currently suing Correctional Services Canada in a class action lawsuit challenges CSCâs practices of solitary confinement. This show also featured audio from a demonstration that took place in Montreal on May 20, 2017 in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners who were on hunger strike.

This episode of the Prison Radio Show includes a recording of her speech from the event. The show also includes a re-broadcast from Kingstonâs Prison Radio; an interview with an herbalist named Em who describes herbs that are available in most canteens in prison and can be used to treat common ailments. The show also includes our usual news round up at the beginning.

The 10th edition of the festival takes place on the banks of the Lachine Canal in Montreal from June 14-18 2017. Featuring an interview with festival co-founder Matt Large, we also hear from Guillaume Jabbour, leader of Quebec band Jabbour and include an excerpt from a great live studio appearance by the wonderful Birds of Chicago. We round out the hour with music from some of the other performers heading to Montreal this time around. This episode is a great introduction to a festival that continues to grow - and still manages to make all its outdoor programming free to enjoy.
