TB 170915 Quantitative Screwing 2X

Sept. 14, 2017, 8:56 p.m.
The Thunderbolt is still not being broadcast over the air. (Hitches in plans and ‘processes’ that I had previously been unaware of — but hopefully we’ll be on KAOS after their fund drive next month.) Since producing these shows is a lot of work, I am only recording one new show a month now instead of two and I have thus put together another show from the archives for you. (One advantage to archive shows is that no dogs ever make it into the show a second time, though…) This week’s show starts off with some central themes that I have been hitting on for years now. Then, we point out how during the last presidential election, one of the choices was completely intolerable — whilst the other was utterly unacceptable. Next, we reveal the secrets of the cosmos with our semi-regular ‘Wisdom of the Thunderbolt’ series, the Toothless Old Grandpa goes postal, we provide a basic course on how to influence public policy — and for the feature piece this week we describe an economic practice that is usually called ‘quantitative easing’ but that here in the Thunderbolt we refer to as what it actually is, i.e. ‘quantitative screwing’. Yes — it’s quantitative outrage mixed with a dash of pique this week — so listen at your own risk!

Out of the Woods - Show #389 - 9-23-17

Sept. 14, 2017, 8:39 a.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Repression in Rwanda has US-UK support

Sept. 13, 2017, 7:14 p.m.
Two women have stood up to Kagame’s dictatorship in Rwanda, Victoire Ingabire and Diane Rwigara. Both were blocked from running for President, facing intimidation and eventual arrest. Victoire is in her seventh year in prison and Rwigara and her family are basically in custody. The public has to be told about this injustice, which has US-UK support. Anne also warns that writers/commentators should avoid comparing Kagame and Kim Jung-un and other alleged designated “bad guys”, such comments only bring confusion rather than clarity.

Army Maj. Danny Sjursen rips US wars, self-image, hypocrisy

Sept. 13, 2017, 12:53 p.m.
US Army Major Danny Sjursen, a veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq wars and still on active duty at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, elaborates on his recent article for TomDispatch, “Worth Dying For? When it Comes to the War in the Greater Middle East, Maybe We're the Bad Guys” which he acknowledges represents his views an not those of the Dept. of the Army, the Dept. of Defense, or the US Government. This becomes abundantly clear as he skewers the notion of the US as “the indispensable nation” or a “force for good,” in the world and the indifference of Americans to the violence that their country has been doing and continues to so around the world, citing the US support for the ongoing air-war being conducted by Saudi Arabia against the people of Yemen. He also castigates the public's refusal to acknowledge America's responsibility for the refugee crisis that its wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have caused and wonders if it is too late to turn things around. Sjursen has particularly harsh criticism for Washington's choice of allies, the Saudis, Israel, and Egypt, and compares the US reaction to the behavior of the Saudis (whose fundamentalist Wahabist doctrine he condemns) with that of ISIS, when they do the same thing, such as be-headings. That the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have become interminable he attributes to Nixon's ending of the draft before which America's young men and their families had “skin in the game,” and to the preference of the military for a professional army, about which, he notes the country's founders had serious questions. Without the draft, he points out, there can be no serious antiwar movement. He points out that all of the military actions taken by the USG since 911 have been justified by the loosely interpreted “Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists” given to Pres. GW Bush on 9/14/01 and noted that there is a new effort in the Senate by Elizabeth Warren and Rand Paul to repeal it. Sjursen notes the contradictions among those in today's army. While pleased with the “socialized” health care and the generous benefits provided by the government, a sizable segment tend to hold extreme right positions, politically, which fits in with what he describes as an “anti-intellectual” climate, in general. He is particularly critical of the way military service is portrayed in American culture, citing its pervasive presence in National Football League games, with huge American flags, troops on display and fly-overs and disgusted with the yellow ribbons and the polite but insincere “thank you for your service” statements spoken by politicians and the public. Major Sjursen speaks with remarkable courage and justifiable anger at what he has seen happen to his country and that he does so from “the belly of the beast” is all the more extraordinary. And sadly, all too rare.

Jeff Blankfort: News/Op: 911, No. Korea, Iran, Israel, AIPAC

Sept. 13, 2017, 12:19 p.m.
Blankfort, noting 911 memorials, wonders if there were moments of silence for the millions of victims of America's response, citing Gen. McCrystal's unnecessary concern that Americans would care. They don't. He points out that while questions remain about “official narrative” for 911, debates and discussions about it are barred from mainstream and equivalent alternative media while no one pays attention or cares that there have been no trials for those in Guantanamo accused of masterminding the attacks and that none are planned. Blankfort reports on new sanctions on No. Korea and explains why US threats of economic sanctions against China if it doesn't do more to bring Pyongang to heel are hot air since US is so in debt to China in terms of debt and reliance of Chinese imports that any move against Beijing would bring down US economy. He then quotes from Nikki Haley's speech at AEI in which she trashes Iran and advocates against maintaining nuclear pact with Iran and lies wildly about Hezbollah at a time when Israel is conducting war games on Lebanon's border. He points out that a reported threat from the State Dept. to ask Israel to return $75 million that it had asked for and received in violation of the MOU between Obama and Netanyahu in which Israel would receive $38 billion over 10 years while promising not to ask Congress for additional funds, which Netanyahu ignored, turned out to hold no teeth. He concludes by mentioning a photo of Sen. Lindsay Graham cuddled with Sheldon Adelson and Haim Saban and then PLAYS a minute long promotional message from AIPAC.

Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 35

Sept. 12, 2017, 10:45 p.m.
Donald Drumpf Theatre Vol. 35 I'm No Communist. An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently, the network has ordered another 15 episodes, but there are threats of cancellation. Anyone who would like to contribute to the show, should contact info@wgxc.org.

John Trudell: WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A HUMAN BEING (TWO of TWO)

Sept. 12, 2017, 2 p.m.
The many remembrances that were written about John Trudell after his passing on December 8, 2015, showed the extraordinary width and depth of his engagement. Most know of his music and poetry, or of the films that he participated in. Not everybody knew that up to 1979 writing and performing was not even a thought or plan or dream of his. In this part TWO John Trudell opened with a surprising analysis of the practice of voting for the lesser of two evils and continued with thoughts about democracy, technology, and dominance. Trudell described Columbus as one who did not know what a human being is, and tried to activate ancient memories of those who arrived with and after Columbus and their long submerged links to their own tribal ancestry that was erased by the Inquisition. Respect and responsibility are the leading values Trudell referred to and he asked what the repercussions of the fears and doubts and insecurities are that we experience in today's culture. John Trudell spoke in March 2001 at a benefit for the U’wa of Columbia who were resisting oil drilling on their ancestral land. He died on December 8, 2015. Trudell had someone make one final post to his Facebook page 13 hours after he passed. It read, simply: “My ride showed up” “Celebrate Love. Celebrate Life” John Trudell
 February 15, 1946 – December 8, 2015

Aaron Huertas on the Purveyors of Disinformation

Sept. 12, 2017, 1:14 p.m.
Disinformation. It sometimes manifests in theatrical shows of ignorance, like Senior Republican Senator James Inhoffe bringing a snowball to the Senate floor as “evidence” that global warming is a hoax, or the persistent denial coming out of the ill-informed head of the current president that Harvey and Irma are unrelated to climate change. But where does the disinformation start? Sometimes the seeds of willfully inaccurate right-wing talking points are planted by more mainstream conservative thinkers like George Will, Rich Lowry, Peggy Noonan, or the latest star of the right wing elite, NY Times opinion columnist, Bret Stephens. Under cloak of sophisticated language, these opinion columnists bury grains in the fertile right-wing psyche that grow into dangerously thorny vines of falsehood. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with DC-based science communicator, Aaron Huertas, to discuss what disinformation Bret Stephens has sown lately regarding the climate. We talk about Stephens’s disregard for solutions that could fight climate change, examine the weaknesses in his research, and ponder what motivates him to reach his simplistic and misleading conclusions.

Deir-ez-Zor is a Milestone in Liberation of Syria

Sept. 12, 2017, 7:27 a.m.
Phil Taylor comments on the liberation of Deir Ezzor after an epic three-year siege. The U.S. war on Syria has been supported by the biggest collection of lies in recent memory. Phil recalls the turning point in 2013, when Obama's strike on Syria was cancelled, as the U.K. parliament rebelled against it. "They took a deep breath and counted to ten." Russia let it be known it would not allow another Libya. Unfortunately, many dangerous elements remain in this conflict, from U.S./Israeli strikes and provocations to the Al-Qaeda types cultivated by NATO.
