#743 - Abandoning Wage Slavery
Feb. 14, 2017, 8:39 a.m.
We return to look more closely at a topic which has long been of central importance to the show - the corrupting influence of the modern money system. Specifically, what are the problems of telling people not that if they wish to eat, they must work, but that they must have a paid job. For inspiration we relisten to Ivan Illich from episode #523 in which he predicts an end to social power. In the first hour, Robin expands on what this might mean in the arena of money, using his insights from his 18 years in Bangladesh. In the second year, we hear an adaptation of a film about the global movement towards a universal income, followed up a longer section of the original Illich quote.

Episode 2017.03 - Davos, The Final Frontier, Theresa Mays not so Brilliant Statement at the W.E.F
Feb. 12, 2017, 4:36 p.m.
While we Americans were thumping our heads against the wall, pitying ourselves for allowing Donald Trump to become president (again, Iâm giving him a year PLUG, new statement on his election will be posted during February via MAHOKA MWAKO Podcast), while we were engaged in this fantastic activity, the world continued on. In Davos, a brash young British politician took to the stage to call for a manifesto for change while the Keynote speaker, Chinese President Xi, delivered the speech I thought she was going to deliver. I donât go into President Xiâs speech, though it is worth a listen because it more so than hers will rule the day. He spoke about the expansion of Globalization as a mechanism for equality (sound familiar), while hers was more a defense for Globalization (I know that sounds familiar). In addition to spending a half hour on that subject I included a couple short comments I recorded during the week and a few musical interludes before concluding the show.
